I've been using and enjoying my Pelikan 1000, factory medium nib, and have been using it with Tahitian Pearl for about two weeks. It is writing closer to normal (Legal Lapis was very wet in this pen) but I have been noticing that it is skipping on the downstroke. It works fine on upstrokes, horizontals, and combos, but more than half of the downstrokes are just dry. This is especially true when the letter starts with the downstroke (as so many do).

Any thoughts on what to look for? I've soaked and rinsed and examined the tines (which look fine to me, but what do I know?)

I look forward to your fine suggestions.

Andy, it could be the infamous "baby bottom" problem I've heard described here. Can you exchange the nib?

That sounds similar to the problem I described in this thread about my new Pelikan M620 pen. I wound up sending the original medium nib back to the seller, Pam Braun and she sent me a replacement nib, which writes perfectly now.

Andy, have the same problem with my black denostrator m200, this is what Richard advised me to do when I asked him if I can fix the problem on my own

"

Nothing you can do yourself unless you're an experienced nib technician. The task at hand is to analyze the fault and then do what's needed to correct it. Unless you know what to look for and how to look for it, you can't find and fix the real problem.

Sorry... "

Hey Andy, Is it only with this ink that the issue with downstrokes occurs? (I was going to be "cute" and say - "Well, you could learn to write your downstrokes as upstrokes." But that wouldn't have been very sensitive, so I wont say that laugh.gif .) I've had some weird issues with certain inks before - like one of my Pelikan nibs will not write in Clairefontaine notebooks with Private Reserve inks.

Andy,
Does this happen with all inks now? If you would like I can bring up my ultra sonic cleaner (tuesday morning I am free) and we can give it a couple of cycles with that and see if that helps. My first danitrio was a real pain for a long time and the ultrasonic cleaner got it writing nice.... and I can get to look at your collection!!!

I've only had Legal Lapis and Tahitian Pearl in this Pelican. It would be no problem to unscrew the nib, rinse it and then give it a whirl in the ultrasonic cleanser. We can do that at my office and it would be my pleasure to have you "admire" my pens.

Tuesday morning would be great. After 9:30 would be best as I have a breakfast meeting on my calendar.

If this suits you, lets move the discussion of details and directions to PM or email.

I've actually tried to do that biggrin.gif

It makes my already horrid handwriting even horrider laugh.gif

I'm not going to try any fancy adjusting on my own; just another thorogh cleaning and perhaps a less saturated ink (though I'm not sure I understand the physics well enough to know that this might help).

I had to send my first nib back to Chartpak due to some flow issues. The new nib works great and I have been using it for well over a year and a half and not a problem.

So did the ultrasonic cleaner do the trick?

I see that you posted something about this in the chatter section. Sorry that didn't fix the problem Andy.
