My best friend gave me a Cross Century II fountain pen and I love it. It has an extra fine point, however, and I know that I would like a fine point. I also know that I would enjoy a stainless steel nib, because I have written with one in a fine point and loved it. However, I also am into fountain pens enough to know that some of the other fountain pen nib replacement options could be even better. I wanted to know of anyone has written with any of the other metal choices available for Cross Century II nibs. You can get a replacement 18k nib for $70, a 23k for $35 a "Rhodium" nib for $35 or the ol' faithful stainless for $25 at the Cross website. The only question is which one to get. Though I never thought I would like cross fountain pens as much as I do, they have proved to be extremely fun writers for me. So, please advise me on what would be the most fun writer. I liked the stainless steel one I tried because it had a touch of spring, but was also firm enough to write fast. So, perhaps the 23k might be a tad soft for me. Also, i have no clue what their rhodium nib would actually write like...any clues? My pen has chrome accents, so the Rhodium one would go nicely if yall think it might write better than the stainless. But, if anyone can testify that the 18k is simply a very very wonderful writing experience not to be disregarded...then I am open to that consideration too. Please help me out, even if you have only experienced these nibs in the Townsend or something. THanks so much!

Hi,
I have been using a Century II medalist with 23K plated Stainless Steel nib in M width. It is a wonderful writer with good flow and does not skip. My medium writes more like a stub.

The "23k" and "rhodium" are plated steel, the writing experience should be the same. In fact, I have XFs in both, and it is. I'm very happy with my steel F as well, but have been contemplating trying the 18k version for kicks...

I have an 18k yellow gold nib on my Century II that writes very well, laying down a decently wet line. It's an F and is just slightly wider than some of my other F nibs. I have used an old Century F in I guess gold-plated stainless, and that was smoother than the 18K. I like the Century II nib better though because it has a unique feel to it that appeals to me. It is not super-smooth, but not scratchy either. Hope this helps!

I have an 18ct Fine on a Century I and it writes pretty well, can't really speak for the Century II as mine had a standard Stainless Steel medium nib which also writes pretty well, just a bit wider and wetter then the fine.
