to cross fountain pens. I am thinking about purchasing a cross medalist (black and gold trim) fountain pen over the internet through a dealer.

I wanted to know if the nib is steel or gold plated, and if people have any experience with the pen being scratchy when writing.

Also is the black barrel made of resin or metal.

Plus any thoughts or other recommendations you may have about the pen will be helpful.

Century II barrels are metal covered with some kind of lacker (except the ones with bare metal).
I believe you can get all kinds of nibs for the Century II - some of them gold plated, some of them steel, some of them Rhodium, and some of them gold.
Best bet is to check on the www.cross.com site.
