Full Version: Holes in cap?

Hi guys
sometime when I take the cap off my 400 the nib is covered with light perspiration and I need to wipe it off before I use the pen. Anyone else has a similar experience with their Pel? I was thinking of getting a pen mechanic to drill a couple of pin holes in the cap to get some ventilation for the nib (broad 585).
Any comments/advice.

I had a the same and a worse problem with my CS Churchill which also didn't have any vent holes. It was a perfect fit and so when I took the cap off it sucked ink through the nib which would cause it to blob or have an inky nib at least. I learnt to take the cap off slowly, but a vent hole or two would have helped.

I have no idea why they are not put in place during manufacture, and I would suggest this would be an answer to your condensation. Two holes would be preferred to allow some sort of cross flow.

But a sealed cap prevents the pen drying out. I prefer some condensation to bad starting nibs or dried in ink. Especially my well ventilated Parkers (75 & Premier) are regularly dried out.

I have not done that before I can recall sometimes those holes letting out ink when I write and getting ink on my hand. That happens rarely with my Pel but it does happen.
