A chart I made the other day and decided to scan in for interested folk. smile.gif

Most of the colours are a good match on my PC, but who knows what it will look like for everyone else!

Inks marked with a X do not show the true colour well in the scan - imagine them more saturated and vibrant. Most of the Pelikan's are discontinued.

The chart shows the following:

Pelikan: Rose-Coloured, Sunflower Yellow, Umber, Light Green, Pink, Brilliant Brown.
Montegrappa: Bordeaux.
Private Reserve: Arabian Rose, Avacado, Fiesta Red, Copper Burst.
J Herbin: Indien Orange, Vert Olive, Cacao du Bresil.
Parker Penman: Ruby, Emerald, Mocha.

eureka.gif Thanks for the chart. I didn't know Pelikan made ink those colors before. eureka.gif

Thanks. On my monitor that Private Reserve Arabian Rose looks sort of like a slightly lighter Noodler's Nightshade.

Does anyone have these two inks? Do they look similar?

Thanks, Phthalo! I've added a link to this topic thread in the head message (only message so far) of the topic thread, "FPN members' ink sample indices, index-style" in the "Ink Reviews" forum.

What a shame Pelikan discontinued that Umber - wowza! PR's Fiesta Red is a favorite - love that red!! Thanks for this post - very interesting to see what's not available anymore smile.gif

What a shame Pelikan discontinued that Umber - wowza!

Agree, and it's close to what I, and I'll bet 99% of the population, think of as umber.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Diamine really should change the name of their umber. Nice color, but it's not UMBER or even remotely close, in any density.

Roger: Agreed! The Pelikan Umber is what I always imagined - I have several boxes of artists drawing pencils, chalks and pastels, and I have no 'Umber' that is green, but plenty of 'Burnt Umber's and the like - all brown. smile.gif

The old Pelikan Umber is much more reddish than the Brilliant Brown, but use them in a F nib, and you would be hard-pressed to really see the difference.

The Sunflower Yellow is like the yolk of an egg - pure yellow with a real orange glow, the scan just does not translate it.

The first sample of the Sunflower Yellow which I have marked (Older) just means that I have some ancient cartridges that have darkened over time to an interesting caramel colour. Does anyone know of an ink available today which looks like that old Sunflower? I think it's really nice!

The old Pelikan colours are 4001 shades from the 1980's - all made in W. Germany, so they have done pretty well to survive nearly twenty years. The flow is still great, and only the 'Rose-'Coloured' has some nasty sediments in it. Curse Pelikan for discontinuing them! smile.gif

On my monitor your darker (older) Sunflower Yellow looks like my Apache Sunset.

Well Dr., in the 1st inkblot I see a cat chasing a mouse. In the 2cnd inkblot I see an eye. The 3rd one is a dog. And the 4th one is a bird, yep definately a bird.

Just kidding. biggrin.gif Great color swatches! Thanks!

Phthalo that chart is killer-diller!! Love the style - looks like art you can frame biggrin.gif
Phthalo
Thanks M4R1N4! Glad it's appreciated. smile.gif

krz: I see two fish-like things swimming side by side in Pelikan Pink, and Sheaffer Burgundy half looks like something, maybe a small dog or cat... I do see all your other animals too! smile.gif

Hhaahah i thought that i was the only one seeing hidden images in the spotches of ink... I see pink dolphins peaking out from the water, a hairy Parker emerald fox, sunflower yellow rabbit laying on its stomache, etc.

I think the color is off for my monitor, i have J. Herbin Olive, and on paper it looks more yellow and brighter. The other inks look a little toned down on thier vividness too. Maybe it's just me

Sorry, but I just saw your chart. I was interested in the Cacao du Bresil (Herbin), but your sample looks much grayer than the samples I've seen online elsewhere, where they appear more purplish. Is it more like grey than purple?

Thanks!

Thanks for the beautiful chart, Pthalo! I love that Sheaffer Burgundy, too bad it's discontinued.
