I am anxious to know which model Parker fountain pen was being sold ca. 1970 or a year before? I know that The barrel was a dark blue and chrome (?) and the pen was sold alone, not part of a set. I think the pen was less than ten dollars if I am not mistaken.

This is the English Parker 25, stainless with a colored barrel. Is this the pen you are seeking? It uses a cartridge or converter and is a very sturdy little pen. They turn up on eBay from time to time.

I'll bet it is. Thank you so much. I will look for it on Ebay! This pen has a very special memory for me...

Although a student pen, it is a sturdy pen, like Margana says. Nice writer typically. But it will now cost you more than $10--they go for a rather high price on eBay these days, for reasons I don't quite understand!
best, Dan

Yes, I would suspect that it is more than $10.00 now....why...if they charge for water, why not pens? LOL.

I bought my Parker 25 almost four years ago to carry when I don't want to risk one of my more delicate or valuable pens. I paid less than $20 but don't recall the exact price. Mine is I believe a medium, quite smooth actually, though I would have preferred a fine or ex-fine. The price was right though. I checked eBay a couple of days ago and found one for over $40. Now if all my pens would double in value, I could justify buying a whole boat load of them for investment and no one around here could complain!

How funny. I would be willing to bet that most of the world is in this very situation: they collect things and are constantly being judged by those around them who do not understand..but oh, what a nice problem to have!! I know my children think I am quite off my rocker for having this hobby...but since that doesn't change their opinion of me one iota...I may as well enjoy!

My teenagers have no appreciation for fountain pens much less a vintage one. That Parker 25 is from the last century so it is definitely not cool. But since it is British it might have a degree of coolness to it but not enough to want to be seen with one. That is unless one is trying to up his geek ranking.
Gel pens are the preferred tool of expression, that is unless they can access a laptop or a cell phone. They want a totally predictable result with a minimum of effort. Fountain pens are the opposite and more expensive to boot. Actually I could sell all of my pens for more than the purchase price so I look at them as useful assets unlike my house which is a money pit.
Now ink is a whole nother story.

The parker 25 was a great pen, smooth and solid. It also combined ergonomics and a futuristic design as well.

Found one the other day - anybody know how long it was in production?

Gail, you do need to watch the color when you find one. The 25 came in blue, black, and possibly more. Mine is black.

It was introduced in 1975 and discontinued in the late 1990's I believe.

Hi Gail,
A lot were made in Newhaven so the English ones do come up on eBay UK, so might be worth a look there, unless you only want a US model.
