We spend $$ on pens that are unique and many would say a form of art, but then we have no decent place to rest them we put them down. Although I like the idea that someone suggested earlier of a soap dish... I think we should ahve the industry come up with some respectalbe solutions for this.... Is it just me who feels this way?

If you look around, you might be able to find some things - I know Pelikan makes a nice holder, for example.

Nakaya makes urushi pen rests, Zagoory has some, Pelikan's is distinctive and I have seen some people use chop stick holders.

I was thinking of this same thing and saw on a thread about repair that a test tube holder was a useful thing. I ordered 2 different test tube holders from Lake Charles Manufacturing (just found them on the web with a Google search) and they came in today.
Here is how they look.
(Hey - I was a Chemistry major before Medical School and my original career choice was Ph.D research chemist. So, I naturally would be drawn to this. At any rate they are cheap and, I think, nice.) I plan on adding some felt to the insides of the drilled holes.

I've been working on a couple different pen rests. If they turn out nice I'll post a pic..

A traditional pen holder is the "flower frog" -- a more or less ornamental hunk of glass with holes in it. Many of them have holes just the right size for pens. There's also an Alesi pen holder in their normal joky style. A roughly anthropomorphic figure lying stunned (or stoned) on its back with nice smooth holes in its round belly. I have one in front of my, in a sort of fluoro translucent lime green. Guess it wouldn't go in a formal office setting.

That was a good idea dr4kds. And I'm thinking the felt will make a really nice touch.

I just took at look at the Nakaya urushi pen rests that DrPJM1 mentioned, and it looks like a great idea to me, but unfortunately, Nakaya says that they will only sell their accessories with a pen, does anyone know of a similar product that might be available (and by similar I mean exactly the same!)?

Don't know of other source for the pen pillow. I have one. They make great hockey pucks for my cat!

There are some pretty way cool ones here. I may have to get a pen pillow although I LOVE that stand.

I found this glass enclosed 10 pen holder at Bombay Company (a home furnishings store here in the U.S.) It was about $45 or $50, as I recall. It holds 10 pens, and looks nice on my desk.

Kendall,
Does the hockey puck comment imply that you haven't found the pillow useful, or just that your cat (like mine) wants to play with/sit on whatever is in front of you?
Chupie,
Those were the pillows I saw and got ready to order until I saw their note at the top about not being able to order accessories without a pen. Almost pushed me to buy a pen . . .
Best,
Rich

I keep them in a pencil case $5.00, but that's not good for very $$$ pens I assume as they will touch each other and might scrape. The more $$$ pens I keep them separately.

Search google under chopstick rest and look for those made of wood.
I hope this helps you.

Pipe racks are good. Sam and Frank at Pendemonium often recycle them into pen racks. When I first saw that, I started looking in antique shops for pipe racks and found a nice 12-pipe rack that I use for my most used pens.
I have two pen "frogs" (the flower holders mentioned in this thread) also found in an antique shop for the thinner pens and pencils and three of Duluth Trading's "Mug Boss" pen and pencil holders that slip over coffee mugs and turn them into supersized pencil cups.
But I would agree that the pen cases costing as much as the pens is a bit nutty.

I just recently realized what a nice pen rest came with my Wacom Intuos3 digitizing tablet for the computer... Ordinarily I leave the actual tablet pen in it, but my chrome VP sure does fit in just fine... Unfortunately, only Wacom's Asian website seems to sell replacements at the moment, although replacements for some of their other models seem to be readily available, although not quite as nice looking..
