The Aurora Mini Optima Fountain Pen has been highest on my wish list for what seems like forever. Does anyone have one? What are your thoughts?

The fact that it is small, dark red, has a piston filler, and is available with a 14K EF nib are all perfect.

The new Aurora Mini Sole is very similar, small, orange in colour, a piston filler, and has a 18K EF nib.

Does anyone have any information these divine little pens? smile.gif

Phthalo,

If you are into small pens check out the Kika:

Ruaidhri: Thanks, a Mandarin Kika is on my list too!

But the lure of an Aurora piston-filler is calling to me. smile.gif

Saw them at the Chicago Pen show and they do look great!
Much smaller than what I like, nevertheless they wrote nicely.

Hi,

I am somewhat new to fountain pens (only recently have I decided to have more than the one fountain pen I was given as a gift to use). I only like to use small fountain pens that are do not ONLY use cartridges - that leaves me with self-filling pistons etc. I have the mini Optima and I love it. It has a medium 14k nib however it writes like a fine compared to my medium M300. It is also "toothier" than my Pelikan or Dupont - but it still writes smoothly. Also the piston is very smooth; smoother than my M300. I do not have enough experience to give more of a description.

Nonetheless I love the mini Optima and I love the dark red color very much. I would go for it - however it is slightly longer and fatter than the M300. I use it almost exclusively despite that fact.

Diana,

Thanks for the post - it's very helpful! I had read that the Aurora nibs have more 'tooth' than some, so it is nice to hear that they are still pleasant writers.

If they tend to run finer than normal, perhaps I would find a F would be sufficient instead of a EF. But I'm not sure, I am ultra finicky with 'Fine' nibs - I often feel the F nib on my M300 is slightly too thick. smile.gif The size sounds pleasing also, as sometimes I think the M300 is a tad too slim for my taste.

Overall - very helpful, thank you! smile.gif

Now, does anyone have any idea of who may have the best prices on the Aurora's? Nearly everyone stocks them, and the prices vary wildly.
