Mr Sheaffer, please forgive me.... I know not what I did....

As most of you know I am a Sheaffer junkie.... those wonderul pens that competed neck and neck with your Parkers....

WELL.... I have a confession to make...
I had a Parker 51 Special that someone had destroyed the nib on. It is a beautiful black with the standard lusterloy cap and not a mark on it... the only problem was the nib... the iridium was totally gone... it looked like someone had tried to "regrind or smooth" it.

I was looking at Parker 51 Website and noticed that Ernesto had nibs for the 51 in both gold and octanium. I contacted him and he offered to replace the nib on this pen for the cost of the replacement nib plus postage. Well it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that is a good deal...
I mailed the pen to Ernesto and asked him to put a fine gold nib on the pen..
YES, I know the pen originally came with an octanium nib, but research shows that gold nibs were also used.

The pen arrived today.... I filled it with Pelikan Brilliant Black and it is a sweet wonderful writing pen....
Is is better than my Sheaffers, I refuse to answer that. tongue.gif tongue.gif
Is it as good as my Sheaffers, I must admit it is as good as some of my Sheaffers.... but not quite as good as my best Sheaffers...
But then again we all know that every pen is a bit different. This is a smooth writing fine nib pen that has absolutely no scratchiness and puts down a good line with the Pelikan ink.

Will I now become a Parker junkie....

COME ON GET REAL.... this was a lapse of thinking.... rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Tom,

Since I was primarily a Parker "51" guy who now also likes Sheaffers, its only fair that the same happens to you in reverse. It also means we end up spending more money on a second manufacturer's pens.

Enjoy your new pen!

You know, Tom, pens are perfectly happy to be part of a harem. Mine don't ever seem to get jealous of each other -- they just all want to be used, admired, and/or appreciated.

But... if you're bored with all your Sheaffers, you can always send them to me. At Great, yes, GREAT PERSONAL SACRIFICE, I will find it in my heart to accept your Sheaffers, so that you can have more space for Parkers.

(Hey, it was worth a try.)

While I freely admit to being a Parker nut ("51" in particular) I love Sheaffer. And Pelikan. And Aurora. And..........
Main thing (IMHO) is whether you like the pen in question. If so what matter the name ?
I have a little 'throwaway' Pilot (cost a pittance) which I bought to try nib grinding back when. Nib worked & now I love that little pen, cheap or not blush.gif

Must admit I'm a fan of both Sheaffers and Parkers and I find it hard to choose between them sometimes. Some of my Sheaffers have the smoothest nibs though but find it hard to move from Parker 45's for everyday use. I just use and enjoy both makes when it comes down to it.
