What ink are you using?

The Noodler's Bulletproofs are known for their nib creep.

My VP's nib is half blue and my husband's VP is all green. smile.gif

Personally, unless it's getting out of the pen and getting all over, I woudn't worry about it.

I've had some nib creep using Noodler's waterproof inks, but nothing too bad. But now I have my VP loaded with PR Dakota Red; it has the worst nib creep I've encountered by far, and unlike the problem with the Noodler's the ink is thick, dry & crusty on the nib. But the pen still writes well.

Has anybody else encountered this?

I often posted warnings about using Red and Burgundy inks. I am not singling out PR, as all reds are bad and theirs is not the worse, by a long shot.
Red inks leave a gummy residue. 90% of the pens I repair that show poor flow were filled with red or burgundy ink.

is it possible that it's been jostled about and that you just have some ink build-up in the pen itself? Have you run some cool tap water through the barrel just to check? gravity and such have a way of letting small amounts of ink collect in pen caps and barrels over time. there could be ink inside around the nib opening.

on an aside - Assuming the pen is functioning properly, the nib will not touch the "trap door".

I get ink creep on the nib. I will also open it up from time to time and the whole chamber of the nib unit will be covered in ink. I guess this is the price we pay for the bulletproof nature of Noodler's Black. It is worth the problem, though - I love Noodler's Ink. I want my words to last forever.

This has never happened to me with Quink and I use the VP every day and load ink daily.

Thanks KCat, it's a good idea, I should try that.

Any chance the trap door mechanism, spring ... can develop rusting after this ?

Just overly cautious !

Take care,

Robert

nah... at least not in my experience. just a rinse and let 'er dry out a bit before putting the nib assembly back in.

I'll just keep on using it as I always do, but gone is the inky nib and as a bonus it opens
very smoothly !!

Thank you KCat for the tip !

Robert

glad it worked.

We get spoiled with the VPs into thinking they are just like BPs but they can be juggled to the point of spitting up just like any other FP. sick.gif
