So I've been on the hunt for a brown 800 (produced for Spanish market) - does anybody have the 411 or pictures of this pen?

Sorry, no idea about the brown 800, but if you just want a brown Pelikan Souverän, there are currently NEW brown (tortoise?) striped with black resin M400 & K400 pen sets available in Germany, exclusively for the major Galeria-Kaufhof departmet store chain. Only with M-nibs, the FP/BP set reduced from (allegedly) € 280 to € 99. Just in the stores, no online availability (and not mentioned on the Pelikan website).

I've seen pictures of it on
Rick Propas' PENguin site. This site was recommended by FPNers in a Pelikan brown tortoise related thread a while ago. I haven't talked to him, but by all accounts, he is very approachable and knowledgeable. I've been curious about the Spanish M800 myself, so I'd love to hear any information (avg. price, likelihood of finding one etc.) you end up discovering. I'd contact him myself, but I've promised myself I'm not allowed to do anything for a while that might start another rash of pen purchases, and poking around that site and asking questions definitely qualifies.

Dear all,
I am also interested in the 800 tortoise, though my own investigations lead me to believe they were quite hard to get a hold of.
Since then, I've bought a 400NN Tortoise from Rick Propas and can't recommend him highly enough. The 400NN is exquisite and whilst it may be smaller than some might like, it is a pen you can't put away for long.
Mine is now full of Pelikan Brilliant Brown and already it has moved to the front of the pack for sheer writing pleasure.
I guess what I'm saying is don't underestimate the older Pelikans.
Cheers

To my knowledge the tortoise M800 was produced for the Spanish Market and to date I have only seen one photo of one. When they do come up for sale, be prepared to spend well north of a $1000 for one. I would love a tortoise M800 but reality is, $1000+ for one could be better spent on a couple of pens. Good luck finding one, they are one of the holy grails of Pelikan collecting.

I may have to make a trip back to Spain to look for one...

Maybe I should give Rick Propas a shout first... Thanks for the info everybody!
Here's a link for a pretty comprehensive list of Pelikans:

Another route would be to have Chris make a custom tortoise bind for a regular M800. That would be a much cheaper alternative.

North of $1000? That's sick. I'll bet I can find one for south of $300, within six months.
I've come to the conclusion that there's no pen worth more than $600, and very few more than $300.
That's after spending a fortune on pens, and ending up enjoying my $90 green vac with wet flexy nib as much as the most expensive.
That having been said, with respect to the brown 800, if I were going to fork over north of $1000 for an M800, it could at least be a Xuan Wu or Golden Dynasty, etc.
A brown plastic M800 is no more than a chocolate-colored curiosity.
I got a MB 146G, flat feed, long amber ink window, blah blah blah with BB flex nib in NM condition. Cost me 560 Euro, which everyone said was a bargain.
Well, let me tell you, the green vac is not much smaller, writes just as well, and cost 1/8 the price or something like that. And is even older. I returned the MB. What a rip-off!
Let Japanese MB hogs on eBay fight it out among the various [gleeful] German sellers!
We're talking plastic pens, writing instruments here.
If you need one expensive pen for meetings, weddings, bar mitzvas and school reunions... so go get a big fat MB - that's all people recognize anyway.
If you want to write, it shouldn't cost more than $300.
If you want a really nice brown pen, get the Tibaldi Iride, which sells in the 300-something range. Vacuum filler, great celluloid, big, comfortable pen. Or get a Stipula Etruria.
Or, get a Chris Binde, and be the only one you know with that pen!

$1000 is outta my price range - but $300...

I need to find a user-grade Vac and offload my mint one.
That brown 800's still on my shortlist though. I'll start to seriously consider that one once I fill out my Tibaldi collection

The browns are really different from regular tortoises and are really a darker brown (also tortoises, I think). As I stated above, there are currently really brown striped M400 pen sets on sale in a certain department store chain in Germany. I've seen them live when walking past their displays. When I glanced at the underside of the box, the designation on the factory sticker indicated they are exclusive to this chain. Unfortunately there are no online image sources or advertisements for them.
I don't think I will buy them as I don't like this colour that much.

I have a 400 Tortoise striated with brown cap. Would love to see this color combination in a larger size. But >$1K is just too much.
BTW: BARCA WON!
