I'm interested to find out if anyone here has purchased one of the new Nelson pens (not the LE Trafalgar). Any thoughts? Feedback?
Thanks in advance.

Well, I did actually BUY one, but I did try one out in the local pen shop here in Atlanta. I can tell you the Autumn color with the blue speckled look is stunning! the pen is acctually quite heavy, being made of really thick acrylic. The hallmarked 18k gold bands really do add a lot of "wow" to the pen and it is all served up in a timeless diamond-shaped presentation box. The medium nib on the one I tried wasn't as smooth as my Legacy, but the pen was definately heavier than my Legacy! The Nelson would be the kind of pen I'd keep on the desk, in the box, only to be used if I was in a photo op! It's mega expensive and almost too heavy for my likes...although it was surprisingly well-balanced AND GORGEOUS!!!
I hope that might help you deicide!

The Nelson is a heavy pen because it has a steel rod in the barel to increase its weight, otherwise it would only be marginally heavier than a Churchill.
Some people perceive weight as a sign of quality. I prefer the pen to be lighter to reduce fatigue once writing for long periods of time.

I've handled a couple of Nelsons when selling them to clients. The comments about weight are on the money, as is the comment about balance. The best thing about the Nelson, as about all Conway Stewart pens, is the quality. Fit and finish are the hallmark of Conway Stewart; the company is dealing in luxury goods and is well aware of what it takes to be in that position. This is, to put it briefly, one gorgeous pen.
I refuse to own a pen I won't use. I like a light pen because of the "use it all day long" factor -- but I recognize that there are those who really like using heavy pens. If I were buying a pen of this type, I'd have to give the Nelson a good look. A very good look. I'm already thinking it would make a splendid signature pen!

I finally managed to find a Nelson in a shop to try out. Quite heavy, yes, but not too much so. I used the one in bracket brown, which is STUNNING! I was disappointed that it's only available as a cc filler, whereas the Trafalgar limited edition is piston. Although I adored the colour, I didn't fall in love with the pen. I can't quite put my finger on it; I just prefer the larger size and larger nib of the Churchill.

Is there a way to remove that steel rod from the barrel to make that pen lighter ?

Well, I bought a Nelson today. It is a beautiful pen! The weight is a bit heavy, but very well balanced. In fact, the fatigue never set in while I was writing with it. Everything about this pen is quality and it is definately my favorite pen now. ***sniffle*** and my Legacy goes back in the pen case.

I had a few skipping problems with the pen today, but took it back to the dealer and they exchanged the nib. Presto! Perfection

Maybe you should preface that with "recently" or "with respect to their recent limited editions" as I know and have had problems with Conway Stewart pens not living up to the term quality.
