Full Version: New sac for sterling Imperial Touchdown

Sorry if this information is found in other threads. I did a search and read all relevant threads I could find but want to be certain before I go ordering supplies. I bought a sterling Imperial TD on the Pentrace Market Board recently, but unfortunately it does not fill. It barely fills a drop, unlike my prior TD pens with sac issues; they would take in at least several drops. Anyway, I would like to try to re-sac the pen myself. Does this model take a 15 1/2 thin wall sac as sold at Wood Bin? I wasn't sure if it would take a larger sac than the TM models. Without buying Da Book, is there an online resource that will step-by-step tell me how to do this?

Thanks for any help!

Go check out the Pen Sac Company at

The Sheaffer page about 3/4 the way down lists all the correct sacs for TD and TM fillers.

Amin,
There are two size sacs for the Sheaffer TDs..
The earlier TD which was only made for about 16 months and is larger in diameter takes a 17 1/2 thin wall sac (just like the PFM)
All of the thin model TDs take a 15 1/2 thin wall sac
The Sheaffer Snorkels take a 14 1/2 thin wall sac...

The larger diameter TD body measures about 7/16 just below the threads and the TM measures about 3/8"

I have been getting my sacs from Tryphon... I hate waiting for mail delivery from Canada...

Resacing a TD is extremely easy... but make sure that you also replace the O ring at the end of the barrel.... on most TDs and Snorkels the O ring has hardened or lost it's "grip" causing the pen to not fill properly or at all...
Again, depending on which TD you have.. O ring sizes are different..... if you have a early large diameter TD, I have extra O rings and can send you one.
If you were closer to Hagerstown, I would tell you to come on over and I would show you how it is done...

Hi, I'm with Tom. If you live in th US, Giovanni at Tryphon can ship your supplies fast. I ordered from him Sunday (sacs, pen cleanning kits, etc), & got them Wed...

Also, you can send him a email, I am sure he can get the right sac size.

P.S. I am just a satisfied customer, no other connection with Tryphon. smile.gif

Like Tom said, I think your TD takes a 15 1/2 size, thin walled sac.
Make sure you replace the O ring and apply some silicone grease to the Touchdown plunger.

Thank you all for the information. Does mine take the smaller O-ring then?
