Hi:
First time poster; be easy on me
Has anyone noticed the spurs and disparity between the two tines on Pelikan pens lately? Has Pelikan subcontracted nib manufacturing and is this easy to repair?

i can't say I've had any problems though I have only purchased one new stock Pel in the past year. One of my steel nibs from a 200 some time back was scratchy but I stubbed it so now it's perfect.

Far as I know, Bock started making nibs for Pelikan several years ago. Bock itself might be hiccoughing?

There has been a fair bit of commentary on the changes in Pelikan nibs since they outsourced their production and it seems that there have been more problematic nibs showing up.
The modern Pelikan nibs I have used and worked on have all had one problem in that they have just been smooth to the point of being a little skippy on start up.

funny, I've got a slightly different experience. A little hard starting, yes, but not all that smooth. Actually, scratchy, until I fixed them myself

This is true both for plated and gold nibs in the Souverän series (7 nibs, different sizes and types), but not with the Pelikan GO. They were always ok, so far, all 30 I've handled

(2 sizes only).

I've found that the nibs in the Pelikan school pens are pretty much always really nice right off the rack or out of the box.
The nibs on the Level 5 are also quite exemplary in their finishing and like all really good nibs, tipping quality has a great deal to do with it.
I converted my med nibbed Level into a fine/med stub and just love the pen.

I got an m605 for Christmas w/ a medium nib but never tried it. Sent it to Chartpac to get swaped for a fine. Got it back and it is smooth and writes well. If the nib is bad send it to Chartpac to get fixed. They know what great customer service is all about!

I've had 1 on my 805 that had a burr on it, and sent into Richard to repair. I have F nibs on my 200, and Athens, and I find them to be good flowers, slightly wide of F, and not ultrasmooth, but just enough tooth. Other than the 805, I think they are pretty reliable nibs...

I've got an M200 with just that problem, I'm going to get an italic from Richard which I hope will perform better.
Thanks all for the silicon grease tip, my old Pelikan almost seized up and now slides up and down with ease.

Interesting, super smooth is not how I would normally describe Pelikan nibs. All the ones I've had have just enough tooth to prevent the hard starting.

I've had no problems with any of the newer Pels that I purchased within the last year....four of 'em, three 200's and a 400. They all wrote more than acceptably right out of the box. The only exeception was the 400 that I purchased at Christmas. It is a Broad and very smooth, but does occasionaly skip on the downstroke. It lays a nice wet line but will still stip skip occasionaly. I flossed the nib and that didn't help. So I called Kathy ant Chartpak and they will echange it with a medium. This particilar nib is a little to broad for my tastes, even tho my other Pels are broad nibs.

Hi,
I do not have hard starting in my Pelikan M200 even though the breathing hole does not touch the nib. I am using Pelikan 4001.

The Pelikan 600 I have is flawless in every respect. It writes a thick line for an EF, flow is abundant, smooth as a babies butt, and just about right size and weight for me. The piston movement feels like a Swiss watch.
