Full Version: Got a New Pen

Carrie
I came away from the Northern Pen Show with a new pen - a CS Duro in Red Ripple numbered 089.

A new toy to play with smile.gif9 At some point when the camera has more life in its batteries I might see if I can get some better photos and also post a writing sample. It's got a medium nib, so I'll see how I get on with that as I normally tend to go for fine nibs. Please excuse the ink on the nib, I couldn't resist inking it up right away with some of the new Noodler's Britannia's Blue Waves from Ray. I've also got some CS Violet with my pen which is one of my favourite colours.

It was the first time I'd actually handled any of the new Conway Stewarts and I love them, the colours are wonderful. I even got to hold a solid gold one! I was impressed with the two guys running the stall and we ended up having quite a chat about other things besides fountain pens.

I hadn't realised that the entry ticket for the show was also a raffle ticket until the announcement was made that ticket 581 or the nearest number in the room had won a new CS pen. I had ticket 586, but there was another lady with 585 and so she won the pen.

Beautiful pen. I'm curious - could you post measurements on it when you get a chance (length capped, posted, uncapped, diameters)? TIA, southpaw.

Hi Carrie,

Congratulations! Very nice indeed, including the pictures!

Can we maybe look forward to a review of this pen? biggrin.gif

Warmest regards, Wim

Once I got home I was surprised at the size of the pen, it doesn't feel like a large pen, yet there's hardly anything between the Duro and the length of my Duofold Centennial which to me feels much larger to write with. I had thought that I had a ruler in my desk drawer, but can't find it, so I'll have to measure it tomorrow at work. I think that it feels like a smaller pen because it's so lightweight.

Wim, give me a chance to try out the pen a bit more and I'll see if I can do a short review. I've also got a couple of new inks lined up for review - Noodlers Socrates and Britannia's Blue Waves. If it hasn't been done before then I might review Conway Stewart Violet because that's one of my favourite inks anyway, so I was very pleased to get a new bottle of it.

Great pen! Thanks for sharing.

How was the pen show? If you have the time, I would like to hear all about it.

The Managing Director of Conway Stewart, Glenn Jones, was participating at the show smile.gif

Kind regards,

Okay, now I know who I bought my pen from smile.gif I think the friendliness of people goes a long way and as I said at the beginning, I was impressed with the CS stall and the overall impression they created of the company. Mary, I should have a bit more time this evening, so I'll send you a quick PM.

Carrie, you must have one of the nicest pens in existance. I hope it writes as nicely as it looks, and I have no doubt it will.

Great choice, Carrie. Will it be for regular use?

Yes, it definitely will be for regular use smile.gif smile.gif9 It went off on its travels this morning, back to its original home to have a fine nib fitted, I decided the medium was just a bit too wide for my liking. I can't wait to get it back.

Very, very shiny biggrin.gif !

Welcome to the Duro Club! Mine's a Green Whirl, button fill, serial number 40 (birthday present for "coming of age") with italic fine nib.

enjoy!

I wasn't quite brave enough to try the italic fine in case I didn't like it. Mine is now back and fitted with a fine nib. First of all I inked it up with one of the Noodler's eternals and was disappointed to find that it was putting down a thicker line than it had with the medium nib. A change in ink to Herbin's Lie de The and it produces a nice fine line.

Yes, I think this pen is great, but I've got to admit it's been sat in its box for the last few days...I made the mistake of getting reacquainted with my Parker "51" laugh.gif

At some point I'll get round to posting some more photos and the requested dimensions.

I still want a Dandy smile.gif

Did I miss the Britannia review? I'm really interested in that ink.

Hmm, a Dandy, but which one? Would it need to match or go 'with' the Duro at all or will it be independent? Probably get one for a good price at the moment.

Or would that be a vintage Dandy?
