Full Version: Sticky Tibaldi Piston

I have a Tibaldi Modello 60, but like (apparently) many Tibaldi Modello 60's, the piston is extremly stiff. I love the pen...writes like a dream...but filing the sucker can make you work up a sweat! Any suggestions on how to loosen up the piston? Any suggestions that don't require major "surgery"?

Thanks!

This is apparently a common problem with the Modello 60's - contact Lex for repairs:

EMAIL LEX

Mine had a similar problem and I sent it in to Lex for repairs...

There's this thread here for how to pull the guts out of the pen:

I second the suggestion to contact Lex. I bought from him a Tibaldi 60, with the piston filling mechanism already fixed, and the pen fills very smoothly. And it as been working very well.

Ok, so this is the last time I want to take my Modello 60 apart! tha parts are all plastic and I am afraid of undue wear but in the name of science here goes...

once you have removed the nib assembly --critical, since it screws directly into the piston filler guts you can remove the entire ink reservoir assembly from the barrel. Now you can see the assembly unscrews to work the plunger -- this stuff is all plastic on plastic. I found a slight amount of silicone on the threads worked wonders.

mY USUAL CAVEAT APPLIES HERE -- CAUTION CAUTION! You are messing around with stuff that could break --thereby rendering the pen useless. I am no pen repairman. I only do the really easy stuff like sacs etc. so my advice is send it to Lex since others seem happy with that.

Just thought you might like to know what's going on inside those modello 60's!!!

Wow, wonderful pictures framebaer. With those I'd feel confident of a lube job, but as you say - there's always risks I guess...

Anyway, thanks for the pics.

I'll add my recommendations for Lex - he did mine and the turn around time and price were very reasonable. Pen works great now!

so once the nib unit is unscrewed, the piston slides out the back? Or does the piston actually screw in place and have to be unscrewed before pulled out?

thanks. I am hoping not ever have to do this. smile.gif

Yes, once the nib is unscrewed the whole thing can be pulled from the back.
