My last 2 vintage CS arrived a couple of days ago... smile.gif

Well, there was a 100 in very nice shape (Thanks Steve) clean, good imprint, almost non-existent brassing, spectacular nib (just a bit scratchy, as expected)...

... And a 58 in a writer (not collector) quality... quite a lot of small scratches, seems to have been overpolished sometime before, lever was with minimal brassing, bladder like a stone, and it is the first time I see a clip with almost no plating and which has been polished to such an extreme that the CS imprint has almost completely dissapeared (I will need a replacement clip ... anyone has o spare clip??) Nib and feed badly misaligned, tines also. The jewell lost all of its black enamel (not on the underside), had scratches and could not be screwed completely back in, leaving a loose clip... well, a good subject to play with! tongue.gif

The picture shows on the left side (column) the original status and on the right side the "after".

Tips have been smoothed and polished (not grounded), both write now like any of the best ones I have ever tried... As I say, this hobby gives a lot of pleasure, specially now, when the learning curve speeds up and gives good results!!

Let me repeat the question... any of you have a spare 58 clip to sell, share, trade, offer... lticaptd.gif

Great work, Jopen. Its a funny thing that, unlike many other collectible items, the value and desirability of a pen increases with cleaning, reconditioning etc whereas many other items are better left in original condition.

Yes Greg... the only thing is that there are a few pens that cannot be touched and must be left in original state, I try to avoid them (they are pure collector-museum items)... others can be reconditioned and used, and in this way they may double the pleasure of the owner/collector/user...

Congrats on the new pens and the nice work!

Don't be too hard on those of us who own the 'collector-museum items' - it's a tough and expensive job but someone has to do it....!

Next time I will try not to be too hard on museum role collectors blink.gif , I promise!!
I have also some museum pens around here, must confess!!

Hi Jopen,

Nice job. Do a little checking because 58's often have alloy studs not black.

Good cond' 58 Clips are as rare as rocking horse droppings.

Yes, Gary, you are right, but on this particular case the alloy below and on the thread was black and the exposed part was as you see in the pictures, with quite a lot of surface damage and almost 99% of the black cover missing... that's the reason because I thought that this one was meant to be black. Perhaps who polished this pen was looking at a soccer game on TV while overbuffng it
