Full Version: Color Resins from our bespoke and core color range
The Fountain Pen Network > Brand Focus > The Conway Stewart Forum
Mary Burke
Hi,

Many times I am asked for additional information concerning Conway Stewart and wish to share the following points.

1) All our pens can be ordered as a converter cartridge as an alternative to the standard model filling mechanism (Churchill - lever fill, Model 100 - piston fill, Duro - button fill).

2) Our pens can be ordered with either gold or silver trim; which is great as some colors work better with silver.

3) Our nibs are crafted from 18 carat solid gold. The available grades are: Extra Fine to Extra Broad, Italic Fine, Italic Medium and Italic Broad. We use the same size of nib for the Nelson, Churchill, model 100 and Duro pens.

4) Many people like the idea of ordering bespoke colors -- a material that is not featured as a core color or indeed in our gloss brochure. This service carries a $100 premium to the list price but the result is well worth while. I have seen some wonderful special orders and below are reference images of our resins.

My favorite of all time is the Bronze with gold trim biggrin.gif

I hope you find this information useful when considering purchasing a Conway Stewart pen.

With kind regards,

Hi Mary,

Beautiful materials, and marvelous pictures, thank you!

I hope you don't mind I fixed the broken link in the top picture.

Warm regards, Wim

Hi Wim,

Thanks very much for your help!

Our Managing Director comes from a background that involves textiles and introduced a wonderful range of materials to appeal to all tastes.

Mary's posting is great, but I gotta take issue with some of the colors presented. The photos are simply not very good. smile.gif Here are my own color chips, most of them made by photographing real pens. Please forgive the lack of capital letters in the names -- I'm not ambitious enough to write an awk script to do that tonight. This will have to be in several parts, the board limits the number of images in any one post. This is part 1.

that means I'm waiting for one.............................

Hi Richard,

Thanks for posting the images. I am aware that you have ordered many bespoke pens.

Below is a model 100 in Amethyst. I like this one and feel it would have been excellent to have it as a core color offering. However, for now it remains a bespoke.

Kind regards,

Mary Burke

I wonder if the owner is reading this board and recognizes their pen!
Jopen
Hi Mary...
What happened to your picture? It does not show and I NEED TO SEE HOW AN AMETHYST 100 LOOKS before receiving it... blink.gif

Ahaaa... now I can see it... can't waiiit...

BTW... it seems I`m not the only one "expecting" a 100 Amethyst blush.gif

Mary, of all of the Conway Stewart pictures available, most are with gold trim. It would be nice to see more pictures in silver trim, both to raise awareness of their availability (some potential customers I feel are put off by the gold in all of the pictures out there and might not consider CS if they think that is all there is) and to aid in making purchases (to my eye at least pens look quite different -- better! -- in silver).

Maybe I lack a visual imagination, but I am unable to look at how the colors on a gold trim pen and see how it would look in silver in my mind.

I must sound like a broken disc by now, but there is no doubt in my mind that a great deal of CS pens get sold because of these unique and sometimes breath taking color combinations.
Elaine
Mary, I agree, that Amethyst should be in the core colors. The bespoke colors are amazing!

Thanks Mary & Richard

Edit, I would love to see the Oxford stripe and red stardust in person. Do either of you carry any of the bespoke pens with you at pen shows. Mary, will you be at the NE show this weekend?
Elaine
I undersand that the Dinkie is being discontinued. However I see them listed for sale on Richard's site. Is it possible to get one of the bespoke colors on a Dinkie?
Mary Burke
Hi Elaine,

Every model is available in every color! It is just a case that certain models are grouped with certain colors for the core range.

So, if you wanted a Dinkie in say, the new Crimson Whirl that is offered in the Nelson range, then you can order it through the bespoke service.

I hope this is good news for you!

Kind regards,

Mary Burke

Hi,

My next pen show is Chicago, so if you are attending, please come by the Conway Stewart table and view all these resins in person. I do not have every single one we have produced as some of our stock rods are quite short in supply but there will be plenty to see.

For Elaine, here is a picture of our Oxford Stripe, featured on the Churchill Jarvis model (center pen).

With kind regards,

But, it cuts both ways, Richard. In one example, your pictures do not define, very well, the difference twixt Bracket Brown and Bronze, whereas Mary's makes a clear distinction. Of course, which are the most accurate is another matter. Perhaps there is truly little difference between those two colors. unsure.gif

oooooh, nice

I assume you'll be in DC? After NE, that's my next show. I hope you'll have the samples there. I see a dinkie with oxford stripe in my future. Or dinkie with? This will probably mean my first pen sell off though.

Richard, will you have anything with Oxford stripe with you this weekend?
Stephen-I-am
Mary, I hope to be able to stop by and meet you in Chicago.

Stephen
Mary Burke
Hi Stephen,

I'll be there! Flying in on Thursday late and flying back to Seattle on Monday morning.

We will have the new Nelson series on display along with the Great Exhibition Limited Edition and the Collector's pens.

In addition to the core range and resin samples we will have the full Conway Stewart nib grades for test writing.

Chicago should be a good show and I look forward to meeting with you.

With kind regards,

Mary Burke

Sorry to dig up the old thread...but may I know whether there are new colors available? Is it possible to find out a complete list of bespoke colors, as opposed to a complete list of bespoke and core colors? It would be nice to know...Thank you.smile.gif

A quick question about the classic green color. It looks lighter than on some other pictures I have seen. Is it? Stylophilesonline and Wordlux have a somewhat darker looking classic green. Is the pen closer to this darker shades?
Stephen-I-am
I've noticed that it seems to look lighter on the sterling silver duro, probably due to the silver behind it.

It would be nice to see all the colours in real pen photos. It's difficult to tell from those images.
