This ink is in my list to be tested in the following days. Normally I mix Waterman Red and MontBlanc Black to get a very similar color, but I got interested in the out of the box product and a fellow fpner was as kind as to supply me with it. When I find a pen and some time, I'll be very willing to try it, the shading looks just as I like it.

Thank you for the review.

Yup, the shading (and the color) is really great. This is by far my favorite red. It is dark enough to be used for regular writing, I can read a whole page of this without getting a headache (unlike Waterman Red). The fact that it is very fast drying is another plus.

Nice color. Just added it to the "go get" list. Thanks for the review.

My favorite multi-use red! Thank you for the review, very nice color. Monaco Red appears redder than brick when I use it, perhaps because I use a fine most of the time.

Thank you for reviewing this. Bought a bottle today and it matches up to your scans. This is the first red I have bought in years. So thank you.

I received my bottle last March 29th, and I am quite pleased to see that it is THIS exact color as the scan you have posted. It is the exact deep dark red I have been looking for, warm and rich. I love it :)

Tried this as a cartridge and bought a whole bottle! Nice dark red maybe I need to use a wider nib to see some of the amazing shading.

thanks for the review!

Thanks, Nice review!

This looks very similar to Mont Blanc's limited edition 2007 vanilla-scented Season's Greetings ink. Could someone compare the two? If they are close enough, I'll buy this ink and pour it into the beautiful Season's Greeting's bottle when I run out.

Another fine colour from the people at Diamine and one I must get, thanks for the review.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

zhangvict - it's pretty close. I'd say that Monaco red has just a little more of a yellow cast to it than the MB, and the general properties of the two inks are different, MB being more saturated and having a silky almost japanese quality to it. Monaco Red has more shading, but handles very well. I think it is one of Diamine's very best inks, and I can't imagine anyone ever being disappointed in it.

Monaco Red's real twin is Noodler's Antietam.

I really love this red. I use it in my flex nib pens because it dries quickly.

Lamy 2000 - XF, Private Reserve Black Cherry

Lamy 2000 - M, Swisher by Noodler Apricot Orange

Lamy Yellow Safari - XF, Noodler's Purple Martin

Lamy Orange Safari - LH, Noodler's Violet

Sheaffer Imperial IV; Lady Sheaffer IV; VI; Tulle

Parker 51 - Noodler's Purple Martin

This is a very pleasing red--not one that "screams" but instead firmly and quietly asserts its quality. It's one of my favorite reds and your scan certainly does it justice.

I recently purchased this - my first colored ink - and found it slightly more brown than I was hoping (at least on the cheap paper and journals I've been using) but it's still a wonderful color and really, really well-behaved ink.

This is genius. I have looked high and low for a decent blue-black and a decent red-black (I'm particular in that i don't like the intensity of black, but more of the former colour) and both this, and diamine midnight have been fantastic. great review

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
