. . . however one that always looks orange in scans for some reason.

The dip pen writing is on good (my favourite) recycling paper, and the rest was written in a cheap (white) journal.

Hmmm...I think this is supposed to be R & K's orange, even if it looks more like red in person, and the Fernambuk, their red.

Thanks for reviewing these two inks--someone had requested a review of these quite sometime ago!

Best, Ann

Well, I would agree just going by the scan. However that looks nothing like what I see on paper, unfortunately. Morinda certainly has brick-red undertones, but Noodler's Fox (newer variety) looks much more 'orangey'. In my scan the dip pen sample on recycling paper looks a lot more like the real colour.

Hello Ann,

Just to say I took delivery of several R&K inks today and like Morinda far more than I dared hope. It is as Michael Richter says: 'Morinda is a nice medium red. It is not as bright as the normal red ink made by Pelikan, Lamy or Montblanc and lacks their orange hues.' To my eyes it is less orange also than Waterman Red which along with Diamine Poppy Red is the only red I've used till now. What impresses me is that unlike the others it doesn't make my Sonnet skip. On my computer the orange scan looks some way off.

I really like the R&K range. The colours are distinctive and strong but at the same time have a nice understated, mellow look that appeals to me (does that seem contradictory?). And they are well-behaved!

Best wishes,

Tom

R&K is one of my most favorite inks. I have a pen inked with Morinda at the moment, and find it to be a very pleasant red. The color reminds me of a ripe tomato.

Morinda is a nice medium red and the dip pen sample is much closer to the inks colour than the orange-looking scan.

+1 for this, it is very true, even if it sounds a bit contradictory

I just recieved a bottle oif this ink. Overall I find it it impressive, it is an unique color. I find it to lean towards a brick reddish color.

The flow is great, it behaves very well.

God is my Strength.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
