Bottled Ink Icons

Recommended Posts

I recently fell in love with fountain pen inks. I started making icons of ink bottles because I wanted to make an online ink database which lets users share reviews and rate inks in a more standardized way. However I don't know if fellow FPN members would find it useful, I'll ask for more opinions first. Anyway, just thought I'd share these icons.

You can download them here.

I'll try to create icons for other brands, but I have to find better pictures to base my design on or maybe I would buy a bottle.

Hope you like it, and do tell me what you think!

Man, now I'm definitely going to have to buy some MB Seasons Greetings ink. Love that bottle.

Excellent work. I think you definitely need to buy some of the fancy Pilot ink and make icons of that awesome bottle.

Thanks. Yea, I'll have to admit that I can't think of a practical usage also. But I had fun making them. Could let me understand more about the different bottle designs and practice my photoshop skills. :)

Anyway, should I stop updating this thread due to the lack of interest, or if you would like to see new icons?

Please do keep posting! Having just picked up a bottle of Montblanc Season's Greetings (the red vanilla- I love the cute round bottle!) I think I'd like to use them to show my "ink of the moment"...

PS would love to see the Waterman inks, as they're another distinctive bottle shape...

I'm glad you found the icons useful. I just drafted the Waterman bottle. Would publish the icon in different colors soon. Thanks :)

Nice but about 150x150 might be better.

Due to my limited skills, a lot of flaws would show when the icon is bigger. I should have created the icons in vector format for resizing anyway.

Version 0.3 is out, featuring the 8 waterman colors. Thanks.

Thanks! As to use - I use them for some folders that I need to code with colours.

On a mac it's extremely easy to change icons so I have always been doing that and now I can remove the Winnie the Pooh set :-)

Thank you for the comments. I've been busy these few weeks so I stopped for a while. Would make more when I've finished my assignments :)

This is my first attempt in making icons. Please let me know if there's something I can improve. Thanks!

Those are very interesting. Are you sure that you want us all to be linking to your site for the icons?

Hey, I've got these two: http://winsonli.com/bottledinkicons/large/waterman-brown.png and http://winsonli.com/bottledinkicons/large/waterman-blue.png .

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
