Thank you for the review.

So far, I have gotten a darker purple on paper than you indicate in the review. Nevertheless, I have taken a liking to this Violet and it has become one of my all time favorites. The ink flow is very good and the color is very rich.

Thanks for your review. Now I'm thinking of getting a purple ink. I think I prefer Noodlers Purple but they all look great!

I had a sample from a MB boutique that demonstrated very good water resistance. Can you verify this?

Thank you! Not only for the helpful analysis, but for the bonus samples that are useful for comparison.

Thank you, Michael! I just got MB Violet a few weeks ago, and it has grown on me. It's one of my current favorite along with Racing Green.

This is an English language question, but does Violet mean bluer than Purple? Diamine and Noodler's Violets looks bluer than colors named "purple" on the scan. Since my MB Violet looks very close to the scan on my monitor, I'm assuming my monitor is not off too much.

Yes and no. The color "violet" means a few different things. It is one of the core colors of the natural spectrum of light, i.e., one of the shades one can see by splitting white light into constituent wavelengths with a prism. That color neither is nor is not bluer than purple, because purple is not a spectral color. It all depends on how much blue is in the purple that is being compared to spectral violet, but, FWIW, violet's wavelength is longer than blue's. However, the word "violet" is also used to refer to a family of colors that includes purple. In that usage, some violets are and some violets are not bluer than purple, depending on how the violet and how the purple were mixed. Wikipedia has a great description of some of this, and the color definitions in Webster's Third New International Dictionary (Unabridged) are very precise and helpful.

Well thanks for your in-depth explanation. I tend to think of flowers than the name of the spectral color when I hear "violet" :D so it was interesting.

I love it. I have it in cartridges for my mini-pens. I noticed that the flow is exceptionally good with Montblanc Violet. Is it the ink or my vivid imagination?

Not only an English language question; I think it's the same in German. Until I looked this up myself a couple of days ago I carelessly used violet and purple synonymical; now I've stopped doing this :-)

Please see:

Wikipedia and

purple vs. violet discussion

but then MB really is purple and not violet :-)

I think flow is pretty good (as well as drying time). But I've only tried it in a Sheaffer Valor "B" which has good flow anyways.

Cheers

Thanks for the review Michael. This ink is now on my list to purchase.

Does anyone have an online retailer of MB inks that they would recommend?

Thanks.

I've got some Waterman Purple coming in today, I hope. I do like the looks of the R&K Solferino, though. Looks like a true purple. My new Pilot Custom 823 clear Demo, is going to look awesome, w/ that purple ink sloshing around in it.

I also got mine from Swisher. Fountain Pen Hospital also carries MB ink.

Remember: Purple & red inks often stain visualated section.

Yeah, I know. But, my plan is to only use one color in this pen, pretty much like the rest of my collection.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
