Thanks for posting this, Corien. I've been wanting to do one since I got some inks a couple of months ago but I still haven't gotten myself a scanner yet. I suppose I could have taken a photo but I don't think any of the high quality reviews here do that, so I thought it'd be best to wait til I got a scanner.

I agree with you on the vibrancy off the page, yet somehow, to me, it's not as painful on my eyes as I thought it might be - I expected quite a lot of pinks to be far too painful to read for a long time, but not so with this one. Although I must say that on my screen, the scan of your ink looks a lot more like my PR Plum does on paper. Based on your scan, my shah's rose looks much pinkier but still B) .

You can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes... you just might find... you'll get what you need...

Thanks for another quick look. Interesting color, but I don't think it's for me.

Hi Corien,

On my screen the Shah's Rose looks similar to Herbin Rose Cyclamen. Thanks for posting!

My "steel trap" mind is really working this morning.

I have yet to see an ink that I truly despise, finding some redeeming qualities to all. Therefore, I have made my ink wishlist much easier to handle and have eliminated the need to prioritize. :o From this moment on, I declare that all inks, from all manufacturers, are on my ink wish list and will be acquired as time and finances permit!

Let's see, now, if that can apply to FPs as well.

Vibrant pink !

On my monitor that looks almost like Ottoman Rose....Shah's Rose is a brilliant carmine right out of the 1920s...note how you can hold it up to a bright light and it permits light to pass through when in liquid form. It does have intensity that is hard to describe. I wish all monitors were standard! lol

In reading a text concerning Lawrence of Arabia I recalled a reference to the 1920s ink in question (hmmmm...I don't recall much of that book except the ink reference - must have a certain subject on the brain) and it was compared to an ancient carmine used with reed stylus pens. I have no idea as to the knowledge of the person quoted about inks - but it is a theme incorporated into the most recent production of Shah's Rose (the older label/model has been discontinued and once sold out will not be re-made - that was a classic 13th century painting of the Saffavid Shah at court).

This label is ancient Persian...5,000 years worth.

"The pen is mightier than the sword."

The pen could be mightier than the thief and the gun if it is filled with a bulletproof ink too!

May be available again soon, I hope...but not at the moment:

I've been looking for a nice Magenta color. This one could be it!

All the best,

How can you tell when you're out of invisible ink?

KRZ - As Nathan said, my scan looks darker than Shah's Rose is - you might want to try Ottoman Rose as well ?

Thanks. I do want to try the "Ottoman Rose". I bought some "Shah's Rose" and it is the perfect Magenta I was looking for. I'm hoping the "Ottoman Rose" might resemble J. Herbin "Cyclamen Rose" which I would describe as a violet Magenta.

Ottoman Rose is nothing like JH Rose Cyclamen. It is essentially a burgundy with pinkish highlights (there are a couple of handwritten reviews in this forum). You might like to try Diamine Crimson, which I have just bought. This is a bit like Rose Cyclamen, but much more intense - though I'm comparing a fine cartridge pen with a broad wet writer here.

Maybe someone could post another example of Shah's Rose here? (The Writing Desk only have Ottoman at the moment, so I bought Diamine Crimson and YOL Claret in the hope of one of them being a clone...)

I got asked for a higher resolution picture. I'm not sure what happened to that file, but it's not on my server anymore.

So, here is a new sample. Photo with and without flash, and a scan.

On my screen the photo with flash comes closest to the real life sample, except the pink on the photo is more 'fluorescent' looking than it is in real life (that's probably just how this pigment photographs, considering it's like this in both pictures and a lot in the scan).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
