Bird or Splat

I know that MB made FPs before Pel did but whose symbol, Pel's bird & MB's "splat", was used first on their respective instruments? Did the splat precede the bird?

Montblanc introduced its star/splat in 1913, something like 15 years before Pelikan began making pens. However, Pelikan existed before that, so I don't know how long they've had some kind of bird as their logo. I'm pretty sure their current logo is younger than 1913, though, since it was introduced on one of their pens.

 

Update: The oldest Pelikan logo is off the old family crest, and was introduced in 1878.

Actually, it was a brand called Simplo filler. They had many brands, and MB was only one of them, and the only one that seems to have really survived
