Aurora Firenze review

Aurora Firenze... when I first lay hands on this pen we really bonded. Medium sized pen, well balance even with the elaborate gold overlay.

Nib: 18K gold nib, M writes more like a fine, and it has a nice flex, but when i first tried this pen it had a little scratch and from my experience with Aurora that seemed to be an issue with a lot of the 18k M or F nib. After breaking in Firenze it wrote like butter.

Body:

I really liked the porportions. Firenze's body is well balanced, built in convertor. With the cap posted it's boarder line top heavy, without the cap it's a little too light for me. The cap is a screw on... which caused me some problems. The gold overlay's glue wore off so when I screw or unscrew the gold overlay turns with the thread which is a little annoying. That also happened to the Montegrappa's that i've written with. Thinking of solutions to that problem... any suggestions?

even though the cap is a little flaw, I LOVE THE CAP. And Aurora built-in convertor fills like a well. Aurora Firenze Solid pen, good price for a LP and to me the cap's inspiring.

Nice review!

If I'm not mistaken, the pen is a true piston filler as opposed to a captive converter.

As to the cap, I'd send it to Aurora's Customer Service folks. In the US, it's Kenro. Here's the info for the person I've dealt with there:

Enjoy your great pen, and thanks for sharing!

Hi,

Aurora pens are true piston fillers. smile.gif It's one of the more solid and robust mechanisms there are out there. IMO It's a step up from a Pelikan in general piston mechanism quality. smile.gif

Just a question. Do you feel that the Firenze is better balanced (unposted) than the normal 88 (unposted)?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
