Contrary to a couple threads on FPN, my experience with Burgundy Mist is more positive. Those threads are relatively old, so maybe PR did something to change the ink's formula.

That looks really nice! I have a bottle on order, and cannot wait for it to arrive. :D

 

I discussed the comments about this ink with a well-known supplier, and that was the first they had heard of issues. If people did have problems, they apparently were not reporting them to anyone who could help.

 

I'm really looking forward to this colour, and plan to put it straight into my Nakaya. :)

 

The only times I have found my PR inks to dry slowly, is when they have been left in the pen awhile and have become a bit concentrated. (Like the Fiesta Red which has been in an Esterbrook of mine for about 6 weeks now. ;)

I think most of the problems with Burgundy Mist occurred as the ink "aged" in the bottle. It turned darker, mine did to a noticeable degree. However the colors you are showing are much brighter than any I got so perhaps they did change the formulation. It will be interesting to see how your ink ages.

I bought a new bottle of Burgundy mist today, to compare to a bottle I picked up about a year and a half ago:

They seem to have changed the formula. My 2004 Burgundy Mist went brown in less than a year. I realized that after trying it after 8 or 10 months or so, and the resulting colour just did not match my memory of the fresh ink, as hard as i tried to see the burgundy in it. :doh:

Well, I still like it! If it holds up even for a year, it's a nice rich and saturated maroon, yet not gaudy at all. My favorite ink so far!

We also don't know if the difference between the new and old inks bought by LarryT results from aging. It might be a slight variation or an intentional change in how the ink is formulated by PR.

What I wanted to say above, obviously not clearly enough: BOTH Larry's are OK, both must have a never formula, than mine had. A real colour change due to aging would have been much more obvious. :huh:

I had a real problem with PR Black Cherry, it went to a very dark muddy brown within a couple of months of buying it. PR replaced it, and I have had no problems with the new bottle. My older bottle of Burgundy Mist was bought in the summer of 2004, a good six months after the bad Black Cherry. I wonder if PR changed the inks somehow? I haven't had any other problems with their products.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
