Well, I guess I'm still in the lowest range, but I'm glad I received a Pel M200 and Lamy Al-star this Christmas to complement my lone Phileas. I keep trying to delude myself into thinking those are all I'll ever need .

Off the top of my head I guessed that I'm in the 41-60 range. I'm not 100% certain of that, however. I may have fewer. But I suspect that I'm in the lowest end of that range. This comes from my having bought a handful of cheap pens a couple of times.

My pen collection has grown over 40-some years to a size that could populate a small town. Hence, I am focusing on enjoying my pens, yet always adding a few more as interest grabs me. This year I added six, I think.

My database show me 41 pens but because of my 3 cases (each with 14 pens) are totally full and I have a sonnet out of them... Maybe I forgot to updated my database after some pens :P I have to check it.

I own 43 fps, but my mother that doesn't collect fps, has other 10 fps all vintage because she received them for gifts a lot of year ago. I cleared them with cold distilled water and ultrasonic bathtube. So I consider also that pens. And I'm still in the range of 41-60.

I'm up to about six or seven.

The most recent: My dad's black, american Parker "51". Story of the gift here. Pictures posted here.

The Sheaffer PFM-II that was bought in the wild, at auction, for me, by my brother-in-law, and given to me as a gesture of truly remarkable insight and respect.

A Hero 616 that Dillo converted from pump to aerometric.

Two pelikans: Blue Marble M200, Blue Striated M400.

An Aldo Domani, very small, that needs a bantam converter.

I use my wife's red Lamy Safari, because she won't. It's the only one I don't fret about taking to work, where it occassionally hits the concrete floor.

I just counted them all up yesterday and at this moment the total is thirty.

The Wearever collection is now over 1200 pieces. The wife & I have got another 75-100 non wearever pieces in our combined collections.

Then there are the (fluctuating between) 20-50 pens in the repair & sell que that are floating around the workshop.

Hi,

DWL, good to see you back!

I have sixteen pens now. Down from my 132+ number earlier. :D :bunny1:

I have about ten pens all waiting for the same part over here. (I'm waiting eagerly for a shipment of the parts.)

I have about 90 pens ready to be put up for sale. :o

  • 1 month later...

10 fountain pens for the moment.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I'm in the 11-20 range, but only because I added seven in the past month:

Sailor 1911 International style

Pelikan Piccadilly Circus

Visconti Opera

Parker Vacumatic

Parker 51

Esterbrook J (x2)

One of my professors says I'm addicted. That's when I told her about the 20 new bottles of ink.

I think I have around 175 in the accumulation - haven't counted in awhile.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
