This one and Stipula's Moss Green are my two favorite green inks. I've never seen anything that compares to either of them. Nice review!! :)

Nice review, Kelly, thank you. I just made a comment on another ink thread that I do not like too many current production green inks. I have taken to the Alt Gold-Gruen with a passion. I have used Herbin Vert Olive for many years, and this R&K ink is the first green I have seen that competes with it. They are different greens, to be sure, but both pleasant colors. I now have two green inks that I really like and want to use often. - And I am now curious about the Stipula moss green. I might soon have three green inks that I like!

Thanks for the great review. One day I'm going to have to get me some R&K soon! Thanks for tempting me. Shall I send you the bill? ;) :P

I knew what you meant, Frank.

Southpaw - consider it revenge for Gulfstream Blue, which I bought after you posted a small comparison photo.

Now I am convinced. R&K Alt-Goldgrun is on my list for must-have colors. Thanks for the review. :)

Some weeks ago I was ordering other R&K inks and out of curiosity I have ordered the Alt Goldgrün ink as well.

It is pretty much like smudgy said: I have filled a Pelikan M400 medium nib and since then the ink is growing on me. It has a wonderful shading and I used it for most of my christmas cards.

Wow - I was just digging through the R&K reviews and I love this color. I'm thinking of picking up some R&K from The Writing Desk (they seem to have a good combination of low prices and reasonable shipping) and I think this is going to have to be one of them.

I got my R&K order from TWD last night, and Alt-Goldgrün is an insanely-great (as Jobs would say) color. I find it a little less lubricating than I like, but it's totally worth putting up with for the color.

Silvermink,

I've just checked the TWD website. The R&K Sepia and Alt-Goldgrün are out of stock. I wonder what caused the shortage? :) For disclosure purposes, it wasn't me doing the buying.

Who, me? :P I only bought one of the Alt-Goldgrün, I swear! Well, and a Salix.

I'm waiting for the Scabiosa to come back in stock, myself.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
