Swisher Inks Blue Black

I have a lot of blue black gel ink pens, but none for my fountain pens. So when I was ordering from Swisher Pens recently, I added a bottle of the Swisher Inks Blue Black. I'd heard about how fast they dry, and had talked with Chuck Swisher a bit at the 2009 NYC Pen Show about the ink--unfortunately, he hadn't brought any with him. I love this color, my first blue black bottled ink. Might take a look at Noodler's Ellis Island when I'm near the Fountain Pen Hospital, but this is going into my ink rotation for now.

And here is the Swisher Blue Black with other inks from my growing collection.

Thank you, it's an interesting color, and a good review as well. It appears that there is very little --maybe none at all--feathering with this ink? That's been my beef with other fast-drying inks.

dianeb,

Thanks for the ink review. This ink looks grayish on my monitor. $8 and change for 3 ounces of ink is good deal in my books (thumbs-up).

I didn't see any feathering when writing, it really is a well behaved ink.

Thank you very much for the review and the comparisons. They are most helpful.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Please use only my FPN name "Gran" in your posts. Thanks very much!

Diane,

Thanks for the review of a really nice under the radar ink. I really like the darkness of this ink - more of a navy blue than a denim blue. I've also found very little fading on good paper but on cheap office paper it fades quite a bit. This ink has worked its way into a near permanent place in my ink rotation. Thanks again for the review.

Chris

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
