I'll be going with the Rhodia planner for next year, but I'm still not sure what the grids will be used for in my case.
Possibly something like fill in a dot for writing time, exercise time, and some other stuff -- each in their own color.

I found that I use the grid much like lined paper with "to-do" lists. However, the grid makes it handy to block off sections, check off items, etc. I like the grid much better than I ever anticipated.
