hello estie lovers.

i bought a deluxe black estie for $15 (at least i think that's what i got, meaning a "deluxe"). everything works great, including the sac.

but, when i push the cap to post (it's not a screw-on cap), it clicks securely but feels like there's a spring inside the cap. is that normal? one can actually push the cap and barrel to a close position and something inside the cap pushes back.

here's a pic from the ebay (not to show the way it springs, just to show you my new acquisition): http://cgi.ebay.com/...E:X:RTQ:US:1123

thanx in advance for you help.

I don't know what the mechanism is, but the click+spring you describe is typical for the earlier Deluxe (SM) Esterbrooks. I have found these caps to close securely.

Later SM-series pens went to screw on caps, as were the later LK-series Deluxes.

I have a Black Deluxe SM Model with the slip cap (as opposed to the screw on cap). Mine has that springy feeling when you push down past the 'click' when you cap. In discussion with others, that seems to be normal and part of the design.
