I've been wanting to knock out the proper introduction, while I've always been into writing instruments, last year around this time I found this great forum and started spending about 2-3 hours a night lurking and learning. Shortly thereafter I started my humble collection with a Lamy Logo (F) brushed finish, and a Duke Greek Key (M), I quite enjoy both and still use them. A few hints later my lovely girlfriend presented me with a blue Pilot Prera (EF), and I have recently added my first Lamy Safari (F) in the charcoal finish.

Today I am very happily in receipt of my first vintage, a grey Esterbrook J with 9556(F) nib, and there's a Yellow Safari (EF) on it's way to boot. I'm currently inking up with Noodlers Polar Blue, Luxury Blue, and Heart of Darkness (arrived today too!), I've got Polar Brown and Marine Green on the way to try 'something different'.

I'm quite content with my new obsession, or hobby if you like. I find it compliments well another of mine, wristwatches. While certainly still a newbie, I've learned quite a bit here and want to thank the members for their contributions.

A quick question if I may: Anyone have hands on experience with the Diplomat Traveller or Diplomat Esteem? The Traveller is on my short list but for "just twice as much"...lol, I could bump up to the Esteem, comments on either would be greatly appreciated.
I may be strange, but no longer a stranger...I look forward to spending more time here with you all, this is truly a fantastic forum.

It seems you're right Diplomat, thanks for providing an opportunity for me to recheck...I'd known this once and forgotten. Interesting indeed.

"...Valdosta was named after Troup's estate, Val d'Osta, which itself was named after the Valle d'Aosta in Italy. The name Aosta, refers to Emperor Augustus. Thus, Valdosta can be interpreted literally as meaning "Valley of Augustus".

I wouldn't always trust wikipedia, but it seems they've gotten this one right.

Take care!

nicolasbdive,

I live in north Atlanta which can be interpreted literally as meaning "Valley of Just Outside the City of Atlanta Tax District."

Welcome aboard!

Absolutely right, I'd say! And your spelling is better than mine since Valdaosta is the "confidential" name not the correct one.
You should visit that place, it's a lovely corner of the world, just below the highest European mountain, the Mont Blanc (from here the German penmaker name).
Another pen-connection is that the small Valle D'Aosta region is home of the GRIFOS pen company.

Best,
