I see a lot of people from the Pacific Northwest and Idaho...Great!

I am new to FP's but not to having new hobbies and the forums that go with them. I work with Children with Autism as a behavioral therapist, and love riding my 1979 Vespa motor scooter.

I have always liked the look of fountain pens, but thought they would be too "scratchy" for me. I am 45 and thought they looked great my whole life, but didn't try one until this week.

I picked up a Sheaffer "Calligraphy" pen, with a medium Italic nib. I then found a Sheaffer cartridge school pen from the 60's at a vintage shop for 7 bucks. Both have worked great. At least for the cost.

I see myself as a "gentleman", but a thrifty one, since I work in Social Services. I am not sure how much time I can devote here, with my other hobby forums I inhabit...i.e. Scooter Forums, Facebook, Seiko Watch Forums, Photography Forums, shaving forums etc. I have already found a great amount of info, so thanks in advance.

Marty

I used to live in Missoula, which I guess is relatively close to south east Idaho. Welcome to FPN. You will soon find out that geography is not really a significant factor!

Hi Marty!

We've been in Soda Springs for about two and a half years. My husband is the project manager at Dry Valley Mine. I work in the district's special needs preschool. Never a dull moment there. Lol!

My father was born in Blackfoot so I've got something of a connection to your neck of the woods. You'll like fountain pens and the Fountain Pen Network. There's something therapeutic about the ceremony of selecting a pen, inking it, wiping it clean, and using it to transform colored fluid into written thoughts.
Hope carries with it optimism, it conquers despair, it refuses to turn back even in the face of impossible odds. It enables us to believe in a vision of tomorrow that will be better than today. Every person that suffered the unspeakable or endured the unimaginable to achieve what was known to be impossible, and discover what others knew did not exist ... every one of these was imbued with Hope.

Ok, so now I have to give an update. What have you done to me? See first it was wristwatches. Researching my grandfathers pocket watch..suddenly I am looking for watches in movies, magazines etc. I am also a classic scooter rider and started looking for scooters in the same way.

Now fountain pens. I am watching the TV version of Annie (Carol Burnett as the orphanage "director") and what part am I drawn to? Where Daddy Warbucks, writes out a check with his fountain pen.

See what you all did. I don't even own very good pens, and still. So thanks, and now I can't even enjoy a movie or tv show:(

BTW, anyone know what pen Daddy Warbucks used?
