Newbie Q: where can I find a nib--_just_ the nib? Do nibs come other than as part of an assembly?

I would like to play around with tuning nibs, but the only nibs I can get for my pen (Vanishing Point Pilot) are whole assemblies with nib housing, pump, etc. Are plain ol' metal nib replacements available, without all the surrounding plastic? Price aside, seems like a lot of waste.

Any info or reference to an appropriate thread or post would be appreciated. I was surprised to find no hits whatsoever when I searched all forums for "nib". Is there some other terminology of which I'm unaware?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Dave

Thanks Fountain Pen Guy. This is more or less what I'm looking for. I actually had seen Lamy nibs for sale online but I assumed that they would only fit Lamy pens. Is that wrong? Would they fight right on a Pilot Vanishing Point? Or is there some retrofitting I would need to do?

Thanks for the response.

Lamy nibs are only going to fit the appropriate models of Lamy pens (and there are two kinds, the 2000/Studio type and the Safari/Al-Star/Vista version). The ones pointed to are for Safari family pens, and won't work with anything else because they don't have the "tang" that wedges into the section to lock the feed and nib in place.

If someone doesn't offer some nibs out of a parts box, I'd suggest setting up a search on eBay; I fairly frequently see loose nibs there (often mixed in with dip pen points, which appear the same to the novice eye).
Does not always write loving messages.
Does not always foot up columns correctly.
Does not always sign big checks.

Those nibs are interchangeable with a broader lines of Lamys including Studio and Accent.

As far as Lamy Nibs go, there are 3 kinds, 2 of which are interchangeable. The steel ones, which come with most Lamy pens, the gold ones that come with some studios and accents, and probably some other models. These gold ones are interchangeable with the steel ones. The third type is the gold 2000 type, they are not interchangeable with the steel ones or the studio/accent gold ones.

I believe the forum search ignores terms of three characters or fewer.

Hi

Judging by the answers, I may have misunderstood your question, are you asking about loose nibs to fit your VP or just loose nibs of any kind.

If it loose nibs for your VP, as far as I know they come as a complete assembly, I don't think any Lamy ones will fit.

If you are just looking for loose nibs to practice on, then the Lamy ones fit the bill as they fit various cheaper Lamy pens (just swapped the M nib on my Lamy Vista for an OM and also have a spare F should I need it it is very easy to do).

See attached link (prices at The Writing Desk are also pretty reasonable)

Sorry for the delay in responding. But you got it. I was hoping to find loose nibs for the pilot VP.

Thanks for your thoughts and I'll check out the link.

Best,
Dave
