I'm Getting My 2nd 149 by accident; go figure

So yesterday was my birthday (39) and I got an Omas Ogiva (old style) from my girlfriend, but as soon as I opened the box, I noticed something wrong with the nib.
The tines are more than 1mm away, and both are bent backwards; it looks like someone tried the pen and used more pressure than needed. I phoned the shop, and they will trade the pen for any other in the shop adjusting the price, so tomorrow I'll swap it for a 149. The only problem is that they only have F nibs, and I already have an F nib 149.
To tell you the truth I'm a bit intimidated by MB B nibs; I've tried some of the B nibbed test pens, and I agree with what some of you rave about; the only problem is whether in my case it would be a regular user or just a pen for signatures. Time will tell.

Montblanc will swap the nib out with no charge if it's unused. Just get it or even a BB - then if you don't like it GP or Chris (or even me) will bite your hand off for it ;)

Hi Siv, I also tried a BB, and it's definitely not for me, but the B... Here, Montblanc will replace the nib within 6 weeks of the date of purchase, so I'll meditate.

Honestly Juan, to bend a nib is alot harder than you think. More likely the pen was dropped. I've seen it many times and the tines will obviously bend. To bend the nib by writing, you would have to WANT to bend them. Probably not the case. By the way a B-149 is a great choice. Line variation is excellent and its a keeper. Good luck!

I'm still considering getting a B nibbed 149, but when I look at my notes and tiny handwriting I think it's not the best option. I'd hate to have this pen collecting dust.
IMHO, Montblanc F nibs also have that stubbish quality (at least the 4 I have); the B nib shows it better. I don't find that quality in the M nibs I've tried, and I haven't tried any EF. I compared my F 146 with the test pens at a shop and both F nibs and the B had that line width variation you'd find in a stub nib.
I'll get to the shop this evening and I'll figure out what to get.
As for the Ogiva, it probably was dropped. The owner is a very knowleadgeable person; the employees are a different story. Definitely, fountain pens are not for the careless.

Happy (obviously belated) Birthday! And congratulations on the 2nd 149. We're in the same club now. I just got my second one this week (a late 70s-early 80s with an EF nib) in a trade. My first was an early 80s model with a F nib. I tend to carry & use both. They are great pens. Enjoy yours!
