The new software is proving remarkably resistant to resolution of the PM isues expressed in the Update thread, and unfortunately it appears that the only solution is to completely erase the PM database and start over.

It is appreciated that this will be difficult for some, as they have come to rely on the system in this area as far as some records go.

After considerable reflection we have decided to start over, since we cannot continue this way unfortunately.

Accordingly, on November 27th we will be resetting the Conversations database, which will result in the loss of all conversations to that date. We hope that this will resolve the problems we have been experiencing and regret any problems that this might create for members.

Is there a way to archive the PMs we have or send them to our email address?

Not that we are aware of. The new software appears to have done away with the download feature. so I suspect that the only way to save important ones is to cut and paste them one by one. We are equally disappointed by this as you, but don't see any alternative.

Gerry

It will be inconvenient, but not the end of the world for me. Thanks for working hard to get things straightened out.

The FPN Admin Team, Thank you for all your hard work. I am sorry for those members who have quite a bit in the way of stored conversations to lose, but you have worked long and hard to correct the problem. If it could have been fixed, you would have fixed it. Thank you for doing such a great job with this site.

Print individual conversations to PDF, then compile the PDFs into one file.

Shame it'll be such a pain to archive old PMs but I for one appreciate the work that's gone into the update and in trying to resolve the PM system.

Is this the reason that a PM sent to the admins only goes to one Person?

On the Mac, I brought up a PM conversation and "printed" it to PDF and it worked quite well. I'm off to try an experiment to see if I can work around printing the initial frames.
I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

Thanks for the suggestions folks - it really helps to see people cooperating to get us through this issue.

Warm regards,

I understand the reasoning behind this, and I thank everyone at FPN for all the hard work.

However, I kind of stumbled upon this thread by chance. I'm wondering what sort of notification is going to be sent to let users know, in advance, that the PMs are disappearing. I appreciate that FPN does NOT ever spam, but might this be monumental enough to merit an email to people's registered email addresses? I know if the PMs just disappeared and I never knew it, because I wasn't following the right threads or visiting at that time, I would be... upset.

Bumping this thread once a day would keep it prominent in the news for the month until the change.

I don't know if a mass email is possible, but that sounds like a good suggestion.
