Pelikan M200

A few weeks ago, I bought a new Pelikan M200. It has a gold plated nib, is made of high quality resin, with gold plated attachments and is a piston filler. Here is my review....

Appearence and Design: For the price of $84, the pen has the look of much higher end brands. The resin has a red tint to it, meaning it is made out of a higher end resin like many Mont Blancs. The gold plated attachments are pleasing to the eye. The nib, is elegant to, With a ratio of height to width of about 2:1. Pelikan's Symbol is imprinted on the Nib. The cap is screw off. I prefer screw off caps because I feel the cap is much more securely on the pen. Caps that just "click" on can scratch the barrel over time and loose their grip on the pen.

Nib Performance: I was suprised when I first wrote with the M200. It's nib is very smooth, delivering a nice, consistent, wet line that doesn't feather nor bleedcthrough the paper. It's not too stiff but not too soft that it can flex. Rather, the nib is just soft enough to deliver some sort of shock absorbtion while writing. The nib writes extremely well with Aurora inks but will probablt write just as smooth with other inks, (just don't buy Noodler's Ink, they kill pens!!!!!), and will write with the same quality on almost any sort of paper you could conjure up.

Filling Mechanism: The M200 fills via piston. The piston on the M200 is without a doubt the smoothest running piston I have ever used. It never snags and is as smooth as the pen writes. You can get a great fill with an effortless turn of the piston knob. Towards the bottom of the barrel, there is an ink view window which lets you see how much ink you have remaining, (characteristic of most Pelikan Pens.)

Price: The pen costs around $84, plus of minus a few. That being said, this pen gives you more than you bargained for. It has the appearence and quality of writing and filling found in most $150 and even $200 pens.

Overal Opinion: The Pelikan M200 is a great, high quality and beautiful pen. It gives you more than you expect. I would definitely recconmend it to any fountain pen lover.

It's near the bottom of this page. Found it in a large store here in Cologne (Galeria Kaufhof).

This store still has this pen in stock??

This was an M250- it has a 14k nib (Not plated).

You can see from the pics that this nib is different from the others.

Sorry for that, guys. I just relied on the captions. Indeed the nib is not the same.

Taburi, AFAIK it was originally released for the Japanese market.

I'm still new to all this so please bear with me.

What I have is the M200 with standard M nib and clear transparent body. All the metal parts are gold-plated.

The store is sold out. Ebay seller martini.de bought the entire stock.

The resin has a red tint to it, meaning it is made out of a higher end resin like many Mont Blancs.

I'm not sure that the fact that the pens have similarly colored resins means that the resins are similar.

I'm also not sure that color implies anything about resin quality. Resin can be manufactured with dyes making it any color you can imagine.

(just don't buy Noodler's Ink, they kill pens!!!!!)

There are known issues with Baystate-type inks, to be sure, but your statement is a bit exaggerated.

Actually, high quality resins do have a distinguishing red tint to them that sets then apart from cheaper resin pens. Take one of your more expensive resin pens and cheap resin pens and put them up to the light. I guarantee the more expensive one will be the only one out of the two with a red tint. As for what you commented about Noodler's Ink, yes you're right, but based on there Baystate Ink's bad reviews, I wouldn't want to risk any of their ink types on any of my pens unless their cheap and I can live without them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
