INKS GALORE-III

blopplop

Recommended Posts

Hello my fellow ink lovers,

This is my third "inks galore" post. I decided to combine all the posts into one, so if you look at the first two posts I did, the photo's are no longer there. I had to do some rearranging on my photo bucket page so the photo's vanished. But all the inks from the other posts are here. I hope it's okay with the Mod's that I have this many photos together. I did it so that everyone could have a central place to look at ink samples before making an ink purchase.

These scans (photos actually) are from 3 different time periods-- Sept 08, Dec 08, Aug 09. Wish I could have had better lighting--oh well. Ignore the numbering; it's really useless now. I took the old pic's and tried my best to group them together by color genre. Some are not grouped too well because of the time in between the scans.

Hope you all enjoy the scans. Let me know your thoughts. One of these days I might get around to doing reviews of them.

Blessings,

Dave

Wow, I hadn't realized there were some duplicates. I think I eliminated all of them.

Wowzer! And I thought I had a nice collection. ;) Have you winnowed your inks to eliminate redundancy? There aren't many that are overly similar in your photos.

It's really helpful to see a full swab of the inks. You can get a MUCH better comparison between the hues. Also, there are some inks that appear virtually indistinguishable by different brands.

I would wager, for example, that if you write a letter in Pilot Iroshizuki kon-peki and Noodler's Eelskin Blue that not one person in 500 could tell you which was which. So, in buying that shade, I can focus on price and performance qualities without worrying about ink hue.

On the other hand Sheaffer Skrip and Parker Quink Blue Blacks are distinctly different. One has much more blue in the mix.

So, now that you've arrived at a very helpful approach to ink comparisons. You'll need to display the other 3,432 brand and color combinations. We'll wait patiently.... Well, not TOO patiently...

I'm in the process of doing that right now. I sold a few off and I plan on fine tuning it even more. Some of the inks I kept around just to do the scans.

Very useful, thanks

  • 3 weeks later...

Here are the inks listed according to brand type. Hopefully, this will help when people are using the search engine while looking for ink color's.

  • 1 year later...

Thanks for linking to this older thread in the Penman Emerald topic. What a great resource this is to see for the first time! A lot of work that represents.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
