What is that other pen?

What other pens can you compare the herald to?

Nice hand written review. You're handwriting is really good. Nice pics.

If I am not mistaken, the other pen is a Pelikan M200 (I have one which looks identical to this one).

Congratulations on a wonderful new pen. An Edison Pearl is high on my list of to-buy pens. I understand that Brian is not only a pleasure to work with but a gifted artisan as well. I am looking forward to a time when I can afford one of his pens. Maybe Christmas time will be my lucky chance.

Hagna,

As mention by our fellow FPN member with keen eyes, the other pen is indeed a Pelikan m200 with a BB nib.

It is difficult for me to compare it to a Montblanc 146 or 149, Sailor 1911, or Nakaya because I haven't tried those pens. The Edison Herald is the more affordable choice comparing to the retail prices of the mention pens.

However, I can compare my nib experiences. I have nibs done by Pendemonium and Richard Binder. Nibs done by Pendemonium and Richard Binder are smooth to write with. At Pendemonium, they call it a "Straight Italic." At Richard Binder, he calls it "Cursive Italic." At Edison Pens, the "Cursive Italic" has a bit of "tooth." I requested a bit of feedback on the nib because I have an EF Pelikan nib that makes scratchy sounds as I write. I thought that was a unique experience and ask Edison Pens if they can replicate that. And the answer was yes.

I'm glad you enjoyed the review. Thank you for the compliments! I certainly had a blast drafting my maiden pen review. A wonderful excuse for me to use the Rhodia paper. :)

Cheers,

PS Thanks for the kind words from my fellow FPN members regarding this Edison Herald review.

Nice review Signum 1. I like the photos and handwritten post. The colors on your Herald look so much different in "person" than they do in other photos I have seen. I am making an "investment" with Edison shortly for two hard rubber masterpieces and I am looking forward to the experience as well. Congratulations on your latest acquisition.

Brian,

I took the photos on the same day with two different cameras. The photos with the date on the bottom right hand corner were done on a 1 mega pixel camera from my earlier days as an eBay seller. The photos without the date on the bottom right corner were done with a 5 mega pixel camera. The weather was partial cloudy that day. The results were darker photos. The second and third photos were done when the sun wasn't blocked by clouds and those photos are good representation of the actual pen. The 5 mega pixel camera did a better job capturing the shine on the barrel and the detailing on the nib.

Cheers,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
