Noodlers V-Mail Midway Blue

Disclaimer: This is a handwritten review with one pen. The color may not always match perfectly what you see in your pens or on your screen. I try very hard to color match as much as I can with my reviews, but I cannot account for all variables. If there are huge discrepancies please discuss in the thread!

The complete series of inks is up for review at my site: Pens and Ink Check them out. Over the next few days I'll have them all up on FPN as well, I'm just trying to abide by the 3 a day limit!

Thanks for all the great reviews penguinmaster. This is the one i like best. I'm not too impressed with the v-mail colours. I wonder how it compares to Ottoman Azure.

I have to agree with you. The color is very fresh looking. I think the name and the color complement each other quite well.

It reminds me of an Ottoman azure without the green.

Thank you for your great great review! Very well done and lots of useful information provided.

How bright is it compared to American Eel Blue or Baystate Blue? Because judging from the scan, its brightness is far from Baystate Blue, even Eel Blue looks brighter. I'm currently looking for an ink whose brightness lays somewhat in between Baystate and Eel ...

I actually just posted a review of Baystate Blue (BSB) that was done in the same series of reviews. BSB is definitely a brighter ink than Midway Blue. BSB is also much more of a saturated blue, where I'd classify Midway coming closer to a teal color. By itself Midway does look somewhat bright, put it next to BSB though and you'll definitely see BSB is brighter color.

American Eel is also a vibrant color. If i had to choose in my eyes of brightness it would be BSB, American Eel, then Midway.

Regards,

Tom

I love the colour, and given I have too many problems with BSB this is a must try! Thanks

Tom, thank you for your quick reply. Though it's a pity for me that it's not the ink I was hoping for! Keep up the great work.

I tried to fall in love with this ink but just can't. Love the color, very vibrant and alive. BUT using it on my Rhodia tablets I notice it bleeds through on that premium paper. When I wet it under water, the bleedthrough was even worse. Tried with my Pelikan "M" nib pen and another Pelikan with a Binder Itali-fine nib and the results were always the same. Pity, because the color is really exceptional

I'm another who failed to fall in love with Midway. The color is wonderful, but the ink doesn't go a week in a pen without drying up. I've tried it in several pens without success.

I'd actually agree. I know I talk about it flowing nicely, and I think it does as long as the pen is used regularly. Once it sits it tends to dry up.

I like this ink a lot. In my F nib Sapporo, it is darker blue than this review, and I find it to be a very nice color. I also do not have any issues with it drying out in my Sapporo, even though it will sit for days between use. I had it in a Pelikan M200, and it exhibited the same behavior in that pen, too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
