Diamine Pumpkin

I don't normally like orange for an ink color, but this one really is pretty cool.

I do, however, like phoenixes ;)

Thanks for the review.

I think biffybeans noted a similar problem with the gunk and creep. she attributed it to over priming the feed on her Lamy. Would you agree or do you see this as a chronic problem with this ink no matter the conditions?

If it happened to both of us, I'd say it's the ink and not the pen. Perhaps other Diamine Pumpkin users will put in their two cents as well...

Interesting review of a lovely color. Shame the side issues. Anyone has tried diluting the ink to see if the crystallization persists?

I've been using this ink in a Pumpkin coloured Bexley Poseidon Magnum with no creep at all. It's been sitting in the pen with occasional use for almost a month now.

I love the ink, but find that the colour is a little hard on the eyes sometimes ;)

Haha....well, it seems much easier on the eyes than some of the other oranges out there! That's what I meant.

Might as well include a link to biffybeans' review. She shows a picture of the gunk <img src="https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sick.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="sick.gif" />

That link didn't work for me, but hopefully this one will.

Diamine will replace any ink that gets gunky. I think it was a bad batch.

My experience with nib/feed ink "crystals" with Diamine Pumpkin (and Diamine Orange) is that it only happens in pens that don't have a good, airtight seal when capped.

I've had one or the other of these inks in my Pelikan M1000 for almost a year now, and absolutely no issues.

However, in just a couple days, I get crystallization on the nib and feed of my Omas Tokyo.

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Thanks for sharing, that is one vibrant colour.

Just to update the Pumpkin experience, I have been using Diamine Pumpkin in my broad nibbed Lamy Vista for some time now. It has been perfect, not a single sign of any crud or anything else, it just works.

I love the colour, it is so bright. I got it to mark my pupils exercise books with. As they use blue or black and red is frowned upon as aggressive  . I thought that a nice bright orange would be a stand out alternative. I surveyed one class of year 7's (11-12 YO) today and they all liked the colour, so it will probably stay though I may experiment a bit more.

Diamine refused to replace my gunky Poppy Red. They told me it was "normal" and "harmless".

My Pumpkin gunks up my Watermans, but the colour is so lovely that I keep using it. Plus, it is a favourite with my students - they actually took a vote! The shading and rich warmth to the colour make it one of my go-to inks.

Yes Pumpkin is gorgeous. I haven't had any gunk-ing problems (fingers crossed). That's great your students voted and Pumpkin one. My students thought I was weird(er) for using different colors to grade each assignment, but I thought it would keep them from getting bored of seeing the same color each week.

I got a sample as a part of GP's Ink Drop and loved it! It did produce a little crystally stuff on the nib eventually but it wiped right off and caused no problems so I'd happily get more. Fun color!

Hey cool, what other colors do you use for grading assignments?

At the request of most of my classes, I have stopped using red (though I still use my Diamine Syrah for grading final exams). The most popular inks for grading this past year:

Diamine Kelly Green

Diamine Pumpkin

Diamine Cerise

Diamine Imperial Purple

PR Plum

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
