Review Visconti Black

This is the third black ink reviewed all at once. Wasn't sure I was going to like it but the ink is a surprise in a lot of ways.

This is the ink I would use for special work, names on diplomas, invitations, etc. But much too fussy for everyday work, IMHO.

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

Viscont black ink works very well in my ... yep ... Visconti pens. It seems almost lubricated and is super smooth through already smooth Visconti nibs. It satisfies other critical criteria, too. I like it very much.

Great review! I had the exact opposite experience versus Idiopathos: the Visconti ink flowed horribly in my Visconti, leaked out of the converter constantly and reeked to high heaven as it collected. I was also on the warpath for a 'pure' black, so I wasn't too interested in the grey shadings.

Now the Visconti ink is happily in residence in a 1.1mm italic nib Lamy Joy and the occasional dip pen, and used for the same purposes that Randal6393 saw so clearly. Loving it now!

I actually find it to be one my faster drying inks, but I stock a lot of PR colors... not fast dryers, those.

Thanks. Think everyone needs a greyer black on occasion. A fun ink to work with.

Well, glad it works out for you. But did you see the message just below yours?

Glad you were able to find a good home for the Visconti. It is much too nice an ink to dismiss out of hand. But, you have heard the old saw about pens and inks? It is said, here on FPN, that you should never use the ink made by a manufacturer in that manufacturer's pens. Just doesn't work out. Don't know if it's true or not -- no Visconti or Sailor pens in my box, and neither Noodler or Private Reserve make pens.

This colour with it's capability to have variances of shading sounds good to me.

Seeing you used a Manuscript pen with italic nib intrigued me as i use that pen as well. Love the nib, but find it often stops writing every few minutes. I have to shake it to get the flow to resume. Do you think it could be because i use a converter rather than cartridges?

Do you know if Visconti inks mix well together. I am thinking of getting the black and the burgundy.

Regards,

Most of my problems with the Manuscript pens come down to the pen having old ink dried in the nib comb. Have had a lot less problems once I started flushing with an ammonia/water mix, then running clear water until completely clean of old ink.

Never tried to mix two Visconti inks, don't know if they mix well or not. Why not carefully try it and put a report up for FPN members?

Major flow problems with Visconti black in my new Opera Club; Pelikan Brilliant Black works just dandy...

For now, I didn't found pen in which this ink performs flawlessly. But, I really like this vintage, brown undertone of it (and the bottle is perfect), so i hope this will soon change.

I was looking for a grey/black to use in a Visconti Rembrandt in the black with silver threads finish. I thought this might be a good match and ordered a bottle - before I read this thread of course! I hope I have better luck with it than some of you. With any luck they've improved the formula for better flow in the six years since the last post.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
