my own Galileo Manuscript Brown mix

I'm very fond of brown inks, so some time ago I bought a bottle of FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown (thanks wimg!). Although I love the color of this ink for special occassions, like signing contracts, it's way too bright for my ordinary daily writing B).

I also had a bottle of Parker Quink Black sitting in my drawer that I didn't like too much because it's not a very dark black. So let's mix them... :eureka:

Here's the result for a 2:1 mixing ratio (2 parts of GMB on 1 part of Quink Black). I included a scan of pure GMB for color comparisons, I have the impression my scanner makes things a little redder than they really are.

The result is exactly what I was looking for, and the new mix is almost as waterproof as GMB on its own: running tap water over it for a minute makes the mix only very slightly lighter. Don't remember who it was on FPN who suggested mixing with black, but whoever it was: thanks for the tip!! :notworthy1:

BTW, the paper is Moleskine, so slightly off-white, not very apparent in the scans.

The Galileo Manuscript Brown is definitely coming across redder on my monitor than I've seen it on paper.

I've found Galileo Manuscript Brown to be the rare ink that I might even use neat. Almost every ink I use is mixed. And most of the time when a black ink is mixed in it's Noodler's Black that not only darkens the ink mixture but imparts a permanent component to it.

But I suppose that something like Quink Black (maybe also Pelikan 4001 Black?) could represent the reverse, a black ink that is not permanent and which only darkens the permanent color. This would allow one to stretch the more expensive Galileo Manuscript Brown. I'll keep your suggestion in mind, thanks.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
