Nice review - the description of the color being that of the moss hanging from the trees is perfect. To see what Umber looks like, I just have to look out the window. Thanks for all the recent reviews - well done.

Ooooh, I loved Pelikan Moss Green, and mourned the discontinuance of it (along with the kirschrot, the aubergine, and the mustard yellow) for years. If this is close, I shall have to go hunt down a bottle.

it is greener - but it will give you that grey-green moss shading that Pelikan gave. be happy to send a sample if you aren't ready to commit. it's a bit of a challenge getting the umber in the US right now. I bought mine from The Writing Desk - absolutely excellent service and the price was actually a bit less than buying in the US (*if* you buy more than 2 bottles of ink).

Great review, Kcat. I agree with you that the umber is a close match for moss green. I like it better than the moss green.

No wonder this color is usually "temporarily out of stock" at our favorite online Diamine retailers  .

well, they've had a hard time getting it. I was told by one seller that it is "exclusive to the UK" but that is only true if the US importer chooses not to bring some over. A Pen Lovers Paradise did not get their shipment of Umber. Really, if 2 or 3 folks get together on an order of 3 or more bottles, you will *save* money by ordering it from the The Writing Desk. Add in the minimal shipping cost to the others who buy and it balances out to the same cost. And you'll not be waiting for the other folks to get their stock in. (2 months?)

I'm game... anybody else interested?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
