Noodler's Van Gogh Starry Night Blue

Recommended Posts

About time someone put up another review, yes?

So here we are, complete with obligatory doodling. Color looks right on my monitor, hopefully it looks right on yours too :P I have to admit, I bought this ink only because of the name (but who here hasn't? hehe) and used it despite hating the color because, well....it had such a great name!!! However, I'm pleased to say that it's grown on me. Hooray!

PS -- Yes, that's Van Gogh chasing his runaway ear. Poor guy :roflmho:

Good review. It's an ink I want and have emailed about but haven't got a response or an invoice yet :(

your water test actually gives a starry night impression, all smudged and etheral.

I had to wait a while before I got a response as well. Don't worry; the admins are busy people but they'll definitely get back to you ^_^

This does indeed look like a beautiful ink. It is the perfect shade of dark blue for me. Right now, the only blue ink I have is Pelikan Blue/Black. I like it, but on some paper it looks washed out. This ink looks a little more promising.

Excellent review, the cartoons are great! I'm wondering, does Starry Night have any greenish tint to it? I didn't see any in the scan, but thought I'd ask in case you've noticed something. I'm using Aircorp Blue-Black right now and that's one of the things I really don't care for--it's more of a greenish-teal-black than a true blue-black.

Not at all. This is a true blue-black. Actually, I was intrigued by Aircorp Blue-Black because of the greenish tint!

How long did you have to wait, as it's been nearly 3 weeks now :(

Oh jeez, really? Hm, I forget exactly how long I waited....but it definitely wasn't 3 weeks. Maybe you could try emailing them again? Good luck! :hmm1:

Seems a little long. They've always been pretty quick to respond when I ordered.

Nope - I emailed and sent two follow up emails and not one response.

Since it was my work email I even included my screen name, but no dice.

I'm just hoping they actually read the forum and take pitty!!

I am told the admin in charge of the ink had some health issues which were an obstacle. However, I just got invoiced for a bottle of blue and a bottle of tulip so hopefully the FPN specials are available again. Rejoice!

Yep - got invoiced myself which I've paid for, so i'll stop whinging now. Just have to sit back to wait for the ink to roll in. My order was the same as yours!

Thank you so much for this review! I have a Red & Black notebook too and couldn't figure out why this particular ink didn't work for me when it got such good reviews for others -- it never occurred to me that it might be the paper!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
