My first Stipula

SteadyHand

Recommended Posts

I've done enough searches to know what the issues have been surrounding the initial iteration of this pen. Thanks to Sazerac for his insightful review on his "22". It helped me move past the this pens spotty performance history and trust that Stipula made adequate changes to the pen to make it a joy use as well as look at.

Initial findings:

Not only is this my first Stipula, but my first Broad tipped pen. All I can say is "wow. It moves on my Red and Black notepad like it was ice skating in Central Park in the dead of winter. I imagine that this feeling could be reminiscent of the feeling of writing with a small brush. It is something to get used to since I tend to write smaller than this pen dictates. It is the wettest pen I have written with. Literally taking over 15 seconds for a line to dry. I purchased the White Mistletoe that looks like crushed glass. I see it having more light green accents. The ink compartment is clear and visible whether the pen is posted or not. It is really nice to see and if it were filled with a green ink such as green marine I think the pen would radiate like a piece of kryptonite.

I purchased this pen from Vicary in this forum Marketplace.

The packaging this pen came in looked like it should have been used to transport a transplant heart minus the ice. When I open the cushioning I saw the beautiful box this pen comes in. At first I thought it may have been one of my wifes gifts that I've begun to purchase. Nope, it was for me. I like the pen initially, but, dont know if I would use it everyday. I prefer my finer points. I'm curious to see what customizations I can look into.

All in all, it is a great first impression. Again, I will post photo's later tonight.

Great little review of this pen! This is the pen with the Titanium nib, right? I have been interested in these, but was scared off by the problems they were having. I agree though, with a company like Stipula, you should be able to trust that they would fix the problem. So when you were buying this pen, how did you identify it as a recent pen that should be past those problems? Did you go by date or something?

Thanks!

Scott.

This was the the pen, Scott. The did away with the titanium nib and it has a 14kt nib. The first iteration had the ti nib. I got the sophomore version. The pen is mostly intact except for subtle queues and the nib.

BTW they both stick out the same height !

Sorry I didn't give the pen a wipe before taking the pics. Embarrassing reflections and fingerprints all over the place.

Nice review and photos. A very good looking piece of writing art. How do you find the metal section?

I am not sure what you wish to know.

Anyway, if you mean touch, then it will feel no different from any other steel pens - cold ? Prone to fingerprint marks.

If its ergonomics, then I have to say Stipula is pretty good at getting this right. The concave part is very comfy to grip. (look at the Etrurias - same too and very comfortable) Straight shanks feel different to the grip, as well as the triangular shape of OMASes 360 series.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
