Is there some way we could have a posted database of just names and locations? Maybe get one of the admins to make it a sticky.

Good idea - how do we get a post made 'sticky'?

Where do you find postcards with local scenery? I don't live in a tourist area which is where I've seen them in the past. So what kind of store would stock them?

The chain stores sell them (Walmart to name one).

While that may be the case, I think I'd rather have a postcard-sized blank than anything from Walmart. I expect people will be more creative than that! (Anyone who may have already sent me a Walmart card, please know that I'm not entirely serious and will still appreciate it.)

No Walmart in these parts but there are some chain drug stores. That might work for some photo ones. Then there are art stores for blanks. Thanks!

I assume you're in the US, but I know that over here in the UK most post offices sell them along with most newsagents.

I just went to the U. S. Postal Service website and found that since the recent rate hike, post card (no larger than 6 in. x 4.25 in.) postage is 26 cents instead of 24 cents. Does anyone know what the post card rate is to other countries? This info used to be easy to find on usps.com, but I just tried and can't get to the international charts.

Hi,

I'd more than gladly send out postcards from Romania (more specifically, its capital, Bucharest). I'd also like to receive some from anywhere outside Romania (come to think of it, I do have a thing for northern Europe  ).

Cheers,

Radu-Mihail

P. S. I'm still not getting how on Earth do we exchange mailing addresses?

Count me in too! This is a great idea and the picture post cards will add a new dimension to the commeradie here. We DO need a central list or someone to maintain the list and email it to others. For security reasons, we want to be careful about posting personal information in a place that has public access. Persoally, I don't want any more spam mail than I already receive.

Thanks for the great idea.

Best regards,

Jerry

The international rate is $0.90 for postcards. No size limitation is mentioned at the USPS site at least from the U.S. to the U.K.

OK. I knew the letter rate was 90 cents, but thought the post card rate would be a few cents less. I guess it's just as well that the two rates are the same. I'll just have one amount to remember. :D

BTW, since we're all going to be receiving a bunch of wonderful post cards from far-away places with strange-sounding names, and of course we're going to want to keep them forever, take a look at this post card album ----- http://www.the2buds.com/sualbpc.htm

Edited: List moved to page 1 of this topic (post #2) for convenience.

Hi notts86 and postcard people.

I'll maintain the list of persons interested in exchanging postcards -- please refer to post #2 of this topic for the latest list. To get on the list simply continue to post to this topic and I'll add you next chance I get; people may contact you sooner anyhow, since your post will be fresh. If I've made any errors, either PM me or add a post with a correction.

Fun Fun Fun!!

That looks excellent.

Just a fun postcard to share...this is a great idea. In years gone by they were used much more than today. Some were beautiful, some funny, some touching.

Hi notts86 and postcard people.

I thought I could start the ball rolling on the central list by compiling a possible format.

If I've made any errors, please add a post to the topic with a correction.

notts86, I hope this is okay?

If the size of the list stays within reasonable bounds (a couple hundred persons) I would be willing to volunteer to maintain the list.

Thanks andru, that looks great. Also thanks for volunteering to maintain the database - let me know if I can help in any way. Now if we could just get this made sticky we'd be sorted...!

Edit: to remove code box.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
