Postcard Swap

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else, like me, enjoy receiving 'real' mail from all over the world? There are such a variety of members here that I thought it would be interesting to swap postcards of our town which have been written with a fountain pen. You could include details about the pen and ink you are using on the card, or just a general message about your hometown!

I'm happy to send postcards from Canterbury, United Kingdom to anyone who would like to receive one. Let me know in the forum below or send me a PM.

Sorry, it appears I hadn't updated for a few weeks! It seems that people are getting on without the list anyway, but doesn't hurt to update it. Anyone who posted but didn't explicity mention wanting to exchange cards I have refrained from adding.

Here's the list (as of edit date):

If you're not on this list, please post to notts86's Postcard Swap topic.

I would be up for it. I know there is a sticky post for those wishing to corespond via snail mail, perhaps with enough interest we could one for this as well. I would certainly like to see postcards from around the world, and it is a quicker process to just down a little info, about where we are, and what we are using.

I love this idea as well...you can benefit from cards from me in two different countries if this starts soon, because I'm in France for the summer before returning to Arizona. Cowboys n' fromage...

Hi,

I wouldn't mind postcards from all over the globe as well as from Canterbury; my young daughter is starting a postage stamp collection.

How would this address exchange work?

Have received such a lot of responses to this post! How about a central list of 'postcarders' which I would distribute to everyone who was interested. You could then send a postcard to the part of the world which interested you and then ask for one back...

I will send a few out on a 'first come first served' basis, but so far have about 10 addresses and can't send to everyone... sorry!

Perhaps like the leter writing thread. Everyone put there name on a list, and then make contact via the back channels.

I think this is a great idea! Count me in as a source of Postcards from the wilds of Michigan.

Please include me. I need more excuses to use my pens.

I'll contribute nice cards from the Chesapeake Bay area!

I'd also be interested! At the moment a "real letter" is a bit daunting for me, but I like the idea of a post card :)

I have sent out a few postcards to some of the first people who were interested. Apologies to everyone else who doesn't get one from me... I really can't afford to send too many at the moment! How about if we proceed like this? Everyone who would like to send / receive postcards posts the following information:

- Area of the world where you will send from

- Area(s) of the world from which you would like to receive cards

If there are matches, then people can make contact using PMs.

I don't know if I made the cut on notts86 postcards, but I'm "eager" to play.

I'll send picture post cards of beautiful San Diego, California. In return, I'd enjoy receiving picture post cards from anywhere outside of Southern California.

PM me with your mailing address and I'll send out the first card.

Is there some way we could have a posted database of just names and locations? Maybe get one of the admins to make it a sticky.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
