  5. Someone told me many years ago, "Letter writing is like a slow conversation". I've learned from others to add richness to the experience of making and maintaining personal connections at levels they can connect with. Whether inserts, photographs, exchanging stories, using creative stationery, and much more, there's a permanence to creating "real" artifacts with pen, typewriter, and paper. I have been exchanging letters globally with others for many years and it continues to be rewarding, and a learning experience. What do you do in your letter or letter package exchanges with others? My letters.

    Swan SF-1

Hi, looking into the Swan book by Steven Hull I would say 1922 or a bit younger. The SF 2 came in 1920. Best Jens

I hope the smiley means that you bought a bottle? I would never trust an IG ink in a sample bottle. They oxidise once exposed to air, and samples in a sample bottle have, by definition been exposed to air. And usually samples are a tiny bit of ink which means the ink sloshed around with lots of air in the bottle while being delivered.
  8. Smythson reported a £7M loss for last financial year. I visited the Sloane Street store yesterday, as in-store personalisation has obviously moved there. Time to stock up. Aspinal of London are also very nice. A handsome notebook range, and A5 as you say.
  9. Assuming that the thickness of the shims needed vary per nib case, what's a good rule of thumb for thickness and amount of shims?
  10. A small pack with various thicknesses of brass shim stock can be found at most hobby shops. You'll find an S&K brass shim stock assortment on Ebay for about $5 plus shipping.

  12. Not if you have some old film negative stock. Just take the problem pen, GENTLY press the tines onto paper, until you can work the film stock through the tip, and push the stock through. I just did this myself two days ago on a 992 with the same problem. The pen now writes beautifully. If no film stock, very fine brass shims can be found. Hope this helps.

    Parker 45 or 51

I also have a few Luxor Parkers, a gold plated Vector and 2 matte blue Asters, in CT and GT. They are lovely pens, really well made. On the subject of 45 prices, I have purchased them for as little as $3 US and as much as $40. I would pay more for a few types like the TX and Harlequins no question.

Cheap and dark black ink which doesn’t fade

That Hero 234 is pretty dark but can have some clogging issue with some pens since it is a carbon black. I was going to recommend that you see how far you can get things from outside your area. All of our suggestions will not help if you could not get them. There is a very good and very dark black ink made by Hong Dian, the same company that makes pens. It's a Chinese brand and would be available online. Ostritch is another inexpensive Chinese brand but if you can't get delivered , it doesn't help. There are dozens of Chinese brands that could fit your needs and, in China, they cost less than a dollar per bottle. But getting them shipped is the deal breaker making it prohibitive if not impossible. From Europe, a company named Koh-I-Nor makes a line of ink that is affordable and is amazingly good on paper. Their black is world class and they even have a document/permanent line.

Thanks for the detailed review and the lovely pictures. I pulled up Cult's site, they had it in stock so I placed an order.
  19. Yes, because in my experience it scorches some papers, bleeding through completely and losing all of its tonal variation. I disliked that variability to the point that I gave my bottle away.
