I need HELP! with a bottom jewel-ectomy

I have a Copper J that Pendleton sent me that is missing it's screw in bottom jewel.

(I suspect the screw in jewels are even harder to find "around" than the regular ones

that aren't exactly prevalent.)

This is what the bottom of the pen looks like. (Thanks to Johnboz for the snarfated

and cropped pic of his from a prior post)

Now I do have coming in the mail from Brian a regular press in bottom jewel, trim ring

AND the compression fitting that appear in this snarfated Fleabay pci.

Obviously, I want to find a way to make the press in jewel work in the threaded bottom

pen.

The rank amatuer, easy way out me says super glue the jewel to the trim ring then super

glue the trim ring into it's grove but I also know that's probably not the way it SHOULD be

done.

A couple thoughts/observations on my part;

Brian originally thought that the compression fitting would work somehow. Just from the

pics here, I can't see the post on the jewel being long enough to make it past the threaded

area in the barrel and into the compression fitting AND I have no idea how I'd afix the

compression fitting into place inside the barrel.

Brian also thought that maybe I could build up the post on the jewel with shellac til it fit

snuggly in the threaded area. I don't have the parts in my hand yet, but from these pics

it looks to me like that would take ALOT of shellac building up. Maybe if one of you has

a bottom thread you can compare to these pics you can get a better idea of that for me.

I need All The Help I Can Get Here yall. I really don't want to mess this up, I'd REALLY

like to have this pen with a new bottom jewel nice and secure in it and "second try" jewels

aren't that easy to come by.

Thank you in advance,

I don't have any advice for you, but I was thinking, "Gee, that photo really looks like that one I took a while back...". Then I found out it was mine! Thanks for saying that, otherwise I would have thought I was crazy.

I've got a blog!

I wouldn't think of "borrowing" a pic without giving due credit to the "borrowee".

Thanks John,

Why yes, yes you could I suspect...

And if you WERE do to such a thing, of course, I'd be VERY interested to hear how

that jewel could possibly find it's way to MY pen. ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
